Golf: Graeme McDowell in awe at the new look of Abu Dhabi Golf Club
The conqueror of Pebbles beach is marvelled by the refinements at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
Graeme McDowell, who does not have an impressive record at the venue of Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, could not help but rejoice at the new look of the course.
The Irish reached Abu Dhabi and took a route straight to the course, which has been quite unlucky for him in the past. However, this time, he smiled when he discussed the arrogant Queen before the press.
He said, “I’d be lying if I said that distance still wasn’t a key around this course, but with the new changes, you’ve now got to be long, and very straight. The rough is quite thick. I threw a few balls into the rough out there… It looks great, though.
It’s in great condition. They have made some really good changes. Really smart, good course architecture.”
The architecture of the club has been done by Ken Kosack and his Troon Golf team.
The world number four has faced a lot of trouble in his previous visits to the course. He failed to make a cut in two of the events and the best finish he could attain was in 2007 when he finished 41st.
However, after the renovation, Graeme aka G-Mac is confident about his title chances. According to him, the new look suits his game.
He said in an interview, “There are some tweaks to the golf course off the tee which suits my game. It is much less about driving the ball long here and there is much more of an emphasis on accuracy off the tee. So, hopefully, it will play into my hands
more than it has years gone by at this course and having played two weeks ago, I’m feeling a h**l of a lot sharper.”
The conqueror of Pebbles beach has reached the Abu Dhabi Golf Club before the big day and radiates confidence after his visit to the place. Let us see where this confidence takes him this time.
