Will be in Phoenix from Jan 30 to Feb 4th, due to the superbowl it seems all the courses are jacking up their prices, looking for some moderately priced courses to play, I have a rental car so am willing to drive up to 1 hour each way

  1. When you make your tee times be sure to check out golfnow.com and ezlinks.com for discounted rates.

It's way south but an new course I just played is Poston Butte. There is really no rough - crushed cinders.

Papago is a good public course.

Aguila GC is also a good public course.

Troon North is as fine a course you will find in the valley but high dollar.

If you play the We-Ko-Pa courses I would suggest the older one. It seems to have more character.

Courses worth playing on Golfnow.com are

    Golf Club at Estralla

    Longbow

    Superstition Springs

    The Legacy

    Eagle Mountain

    McCormick Ranch

    Legend Trail

    Dove Valley

Also check the Arizona Republic on Thursdays for the discounts in the sports section.

Apache Stronghold is one of my favorite courses but the condition of the course is usually a question mark.

  2. I would try We-Ko-Pa which is on Indian land and they have a casino.  I doubt they would jack up the rates,  Plus they have no houses.  The new Coore-Crenshaw course is a little better than the Miller course.

If you are really willing to drive (90 miles) to Globe,AZ about  1 1/2 hours, try Apache Stronghold, considered by many the best public access course in Arizona and fairly cheap.

  3. Try the Legacy in Phoenix, also the Orangetree in Scottsdale.
