A guy i work with wants to sell me 2 year old set of pure spin irons, i currently have a set of taylormade super steel that are 2 years old. What i want to know is this a downgrade to buy the pure spin or a upgrade. The pure spins have a graphite shaft which is another thing i'm not sure of.

  1. I would stay with the Taylormades.  They are of the finest quality, and graphite shafts are not for everyone.  They have issues in cool weather, and if you have a strong downswing.  I would consider this a downgrade.

  2. I've never heard of Pure Spin irons.  I just looked up their website.  I'd stick with the TaylorMades.  Best thing to do is take both sets of clubs out to the range and hit a few buckets of balls.  I think you'll end up not buying the Pure Spins (I've owned several off-brands and clone irons - bought a used set of Titleists last year and the difference in quality and consistency is noticeable).

Graphite shafts are great for picking up a few extra yards but the advantage is mainly due to the lighter weight.  They do wear out over time, though.  Steel shafts will give you a longer life.
