Golf: Karmichael Hunt registers for Surf Coast Knockout
Karmichael Hunt has decided to join the junior crew at Surf Coast Knockout, which will be held at The Sands Torquay Golf Club from 20 January, 2011.
Hunt revealed the news in a press conference on Tuesday. He said, “This is the very first time that an event of this type will take place in Australia and I’m looking forward to take part in it.”
What was Hunt talking about? Well, for the very first time, a slight change in the format is about to be witnessed in the Professional Golfers Association tour of Australasia.
Instead of a normal match play format, the four-day event will start with a stroke-play session in which individual players will attempt to record the first-54 holes in lowest strokes. However, in the last round, the players will proceed towards a match
play format in which the contenders will play only 6 holes rather than 18.
Seems interesting! This is the reason behind the exceeding interest of all the contenders who will be playing in the tournament.
Max Garske, Chief Executive Officer of PGA Australia said, “This event had years in the making and we are really pleased with the support that the event is receiving from the players and the industry alike. We hope this event will set a new standard and
hopefully help determine the future of golf in Australia. There is a definite need to find some new and exciting versions of our game that is loved by so many, and we really think this event is the first step in the right direction.”
PGA Australia’s views received support through the nominations received from the interested candidates. According to media reports, Peter Senior, Craig Parry, Peter O’Malley, Alistair Presnell and Matthew Griffin have registered their names with the authorities,
owing to the originality of the event.
The event is indeed going to spice-up the game, the way Twenty20 enhanced the flavour of cricket. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!
