Golf Latest; Names of 12 players released for 2011 Masters
The PGA, European and the Sunshine Tour has ended, thereby, no more competitive golf will be witnessed until the starting of next year. OWGR issued the final copy of the rankings on 19th December and considering the
final version, the list of contenders for 2011 Masters is here.
Seven Europeans have the green signal for the 2011 Masters, which will take in April in United States.
Ross Fisher of England, winner of HSBC Champions Francesco Molinari, champion of Johnny Walker Championship Edoardo Molinari, Spaniard Alvaro Quiros, Czech Open winner Peter Hanson, and Robert Karlsson are
among 12 professionals who have secured contention in the Masters by successfully completing the current year in top 50.
Apart from them, American Sean O'Hair, Japanese Ryo Ishikawa, Yuta Ikeda, Hiroyuki Fujita, Korean Kim Kyung-tae and South African Charl Schwartzel will also be part of the field, which was last year won by Phil Mickelson.
The defending Champion will automatically qualify for the major, which means Mickelson will be gearing up for the big challenge. Mickelson has been quiet out of form after the Masters, especially after he was disclosed about arthritis.
He represented United States in the Ryder Cup, but could not perform to his fullest. Thereby, chances are that the American might lose his title to some fresh blood.
Meanwhile the rankings have been revised, but Ernie Els failed to move up the chart despite a victory at South African Open. The South African is 12th according to the Official World Golf Rankings, which signifies, he
will part of the 2011 field. On the other hand, the runner-up of Sunday’s show, Retief Goosen has jumped up the two spots and is currently residing at number 15.
OWGR official told the press on Monday morning, “PGA Tour America is compiling the final listings with top 50 players of the world. But sponsor exemptions have yet to be considered, therefore, the final layout will be issued in
a week or two.”
Names of twelve contenders of 2011 Masters have been disclosed on Monday morning by the PGA and OWGR officials. The tournament is one of the four biggest events in the year and takes place in United States of America.
