Golf Latest: PGA renews contract with Hawaii Tourism Authority
The PGA Tour made an official statement on Monday that it has renewed its' contract with the Hawaii Tourism Authority.
PGA Tour's chief marketing officer, Tom Wade addressed a press briefing in Hualalai and disclosed the details of the news. He said,
“We are delighted to continue our partnership with the Hawaii Tourism Authority and to help highlight Hawaii as a golfer's paradise through our season-opening events on the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour."
The two organizations have been working together for eleven years. Their partnership started in 2001, when Sony Open took place at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu. Ever since then, several PGA Tour events have been staged on the beautiful islands of Hawaii.
According to the new contract, the partnership will extend through 2014 and will serve the purpose of golf promotion in the region. Hawaii is a beautiful state in United States. It is known for its white sand and clear waters. The state has an emerging golf
industry, which will get a push, if golf tours keep its name locked in their schedules.
The idea was reemphasised by the president of Hawaii Tourism Authority, Mike McCartney. He said, "The (PGA Tour) brings the best golfers in the world to the best destination during a time of year when our key markets are covered in snow and Hawaii can
broadcast over 20 hours of warm weather and breathtaking natural resources.” The energy of the season-opening event on Maui coupled with the 3-D broadcast during the Oahu event provides viewers a very intriguing perspective of the beautiful destination.
In the press conference, the PGA Tour revealed its schedule for the events that will take place in Hawaii. As per detail, the season will open with the Hyundai Tournament of Champions at Maui's Kapalua Golf Course. It will proceed to the Sony Open, which
will be staged at the Waialae Country Club. Moreover, the Champions Tour will start with the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai and will be second by the Kaanapali Champions Skins Game, which will take place in Lahaina on Maui.
PGA Tour has its hands locked on Hawaii after all, who wouldn’t want to putt on the beaches of Hawaii.
