Golf Latest: Ryo Ishikawa surges into the lead after the third round at the Canon Open
The Asian tour’s poster boy, Ryo Ishikawa, shot a three-under-par 69 in the third round of the Canon Open to jump into the lead.
The 19–year-old Japanese star picked two birdies in the front nine and two in the back nine to finish with a score of 69. Ryo has kept his score constant at 69 since the first round. The current round was better for the
player, as he managed to birdie two par-4 holes and dropped only one shot as compared to the previous round in which he missed two.
His third round score meant he joined the group of Hideto Tanihara and Shinichi Yokota. Tanihara, who hails from Hiroshima, shot the lowest score of the day with seven birdies against one bogey. He wrapped the round with
a 66. As for Shinichi Yokota, he hardly managed to keep the score under par. He drafted the round with five birdies, one bogey at the par-4 15th hole and one double bogey at seventh.
In the third group of the leader board was Ryuichi Oda, who wrapped up the round with a 77, although his previous round recorded a score of 66. The winner of the Japan Open Golf Championship 2009 is winless since a year and
according to the experts, he is consistently losing form.
The brother of Ai Miyazato, Yusaka Miyazato, carded three birdies against two bogeys to remain in contention. He performed comparatively better than the Friday’s round in which he was 3 -over –par.
The South Korean Kim Kyung-tae made a 69, whereas, Hirohito Koizumi carded a 71 to take the 4th place behind the leaders of the pack.
The event carrying a purse of $4.8 million has stepped into the final round which will take place tomorrow at the Totsuka Country Club in Kanagawa. The prize money of $800,000 will be handed over to the winner of the tournament.
According to the experts, the round on Saturday was a delight to watch; Ryo Ishikawa started the birdie fiesta and others followed. Although, the golfer was seen giving his best, the chances of winning the title seem negligible. Ryo is stuck on the same score,
although the final round requires a score better than that.
