Golf Latest: Ryo Ishikawa surges to take a share in the early lead in the Canon Open
Japan’s poster boy and Asian Tour money leader Ryo Ishikawa shot a three-under-par 69 in the second round of the Canon Open to share an early lead with five other players.
The 19-year-old Japanese posted four birdies on his way to the back nine but missed a shot to join the front four of the leader board. He shared the lead with Hirohito Koizumi and Yoshikazu Haku. They were chased by Ryuichi
Oda, Kiyoshi Murota, Han Lee, Shinichi Yokota and South Korean Hur In-hoi.
The lowest score was posted by two players; Ryuichi Oda and Hur In-hoi. The duo shot the lowest score of the day with a splendid 66.
As for the defending champion Yuta Ikeda, he was only three strokes behind the leaders after shooting a 67 to take a share of 13th spot in the championship, which is carrying a purse of ¥150,000,000 out of which ¥30,000,000
will go the winner.
Thursday’s round was altogether a different scenario when Masaya Tomida and Yusaku Miyazoto both shot a 67 to seize a share in the lead for the first-round of the tournament which takes place every year under the banner of
the Japan tour.
Both the players wrapped up the first round with a five under par. Tomida posted a score of one eagle, five birdies and two bogeys while Miyazato picked up six birdies to surge into the lead. Yusaku is the elder brother of
Ai Miyazato.
However, Masaya Tomida shot a 74 in the second round, whereas Yusaku Miyazoto carded a 75 to take the bottom most corner of the leader board.
According to the experts, the Friday round was itself a surprise as the leader board shuffled within few hours.  Ryo Ishikawa was in the third group and there were four holes left for him to complete when Hirohito Koizumi
posted a 69   to wrap up the round. Ryo showed signs of nervousness but he didn’t let it hamper his game and carried his shots with precision.  His birdie at   the 17th hole was a crucial shot and if he would not have missed the birdie
putt on the 18th, the overall scenario would have different.
