Martin Kaymer has lost the battle to the top of Race to Dubai with a round of 70 on the third day of the Barclays Singapore Open 2010.
The German who stood at the top of the Race to Dubai rankings could not stay up with the bid and managed a score of seven-under after the third round. The veteran requires a top two finish on the weekend, but with the scores flowing in wrong directions,
chances of him winning have dropped to zero.
On the other hand, his closest competitor, Graeme McDowell produced a modest round of 68 to take the fourth spot on the leader board. The winner of this tournament will chase the highest rank in Race to Dubai. So far, McDowell is the only one who seems to
be interested in the race.
Adam Scott is the player in lead. A tough battle took place on the last three holes between Ian Poulter and Adam Scott. The Aussie broke free from a tie with the help of one stroke, whereas the Englishman took a back seat after scoring 13-under-par.
Scott has recorded two runner-up finishes in the past, whereas Poulter is the defending champion and chances are that these two will collide in the last round on Sunday.
Poulter shares the second spot with Kyung-nam Kang who smashed a late birdie to fall in the category.
A quite impressive display has been put up by Francesco Molinari- The man who won the HSBC Champions tournament last week. The Italian took a share in the ninth place by carding a 67 in the third round.
Miguel Angel Jimenez failed to turn on his charm and settled at par. The Spaniard opened the tournament with a 66. However, he could not keep up with the pace and hardly managed 71 in two consecutive rounds. Jimenez shares the score with his Ryder Cup striker,
Colin Montgomerie. The Welsh produced a 70 after striking a 68 on Friday.
Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson faltered to 75 and hardly made an impression today.
