Golf: Masters trophy on sale!
The Masters trophy is on sale. Yes, but not the original one. Infact, a replica of the Claret Jug is being sold in Augusta.
The tale of this replica goes a decade back, when the authorities at the Augusta National, which is the home of Masters, gave permission to a private manufacturer for the production. Because of this process, two rare pieces identical to the trophy were made.
The design was an exact copy of the clubhouse at Augusta National. The details were met with utmost accuracy but only their sizes were tripled to be easily viewable in a museum setting.
They were to be kept at Brandenburg Golf Museum in California and the Augusta Golf Museum. One of the replicas was sent to its destination, but the other was given in the hands of Frank Christian, a golf historian and Augusta National photographer. The reason
behind this strange act was the lack of funds that restricted the completion of Augusta Golf Museum.
After ten years, the private owner of the trophy has decided to sell it. In order to do so, he contacted the Augusta National, which gave him the green signal. Now the beautiful piece weighing 75 pounds and thrice the size of real trophy has been put on
green jacket auction. The price demanded by the owner is $140,000, which is a little lower than the price of an actual Claret Jug.
Frank Christian, when contacted by the press, said, “I was given the charge of the piece, so that at the right time, it could be placed where it belongs. But, I am giving it away and I have contacted several collectors who might be interested in it. The
thing is a real beauty and will add to a precious collection.”
The replica of the Masters trophy is on auction and will be sold in a few days time. Only a true golf lover would know the actual worth of the artefact. To find out who bought it, stay tuned to
