Golf: Mike Weir gets a new TaylorMade white R11 driver
Apart from getting a new caddie, Mike Weir is now the owner of brand new TaylorMade white R11 driver.
Weir is looking for perfections for the new season, which is why he is trying new gadgets. In pursuit of perfection, he laid his eyes on the new range of drivers by TaylorMade and what do you know, he got it free! The veteran signed an endorsement deal in
which Weir was given the latest driver.
The player broke the news in a press conference in Florida.
He said, “It's the best driver I've had in my hands from them (TaylorMade) in the last five years. I have been practicing with it a little over a month and it feels great. I am pretty excited about it. I figured I might have to look at it (shaft change)
but I did not want to experiment too much with shafts until I was able to swing properly. I do play with a fairly stiff driver shaft. It got me thinking I am 40 now maybe I need to back that off a bit; maybe go to something a bit lighter. But when I got swinging
well again the shaft was responding fine. It was working the way I wanted it to.”
However, he will stick to his trusted Scotty Cameron Newport putter. The same putter, which helped him win the 2003 Augusta National.
Commenting on his partnership with the putter Weir said, “I do change putters in and out occasionally. At the start of last year, I used a blade type of putter to get a little more toe swing and I still carry it to help me with some drills in the hotel room
at night. But it's the one (Cameron) I always come back to.”
Apart from the putter, Mike Weir will remain loyal with his TaylorMade RAC TP irons, Vokey wedges and Titleist Pro V1 golf ball.
First went the caddie and now Weir bid goodbye to the old driver. Seems like the veteran is adamant about getting back to the top of the World Golf Rankings.
