Golf; Miyazato smashes 63 in the second round of the Navistar LPGA Classic

The 20-year-old Mika Miyazato shot nine-under-par 63 in the second round of the Navistar LPGA Classic in Prattville, Alabama.
The tournament is being played at Senator Course which is a designed by Robert Trent Jones at Capital Hill. The par-72 course is the venue for the LPGA tournament since three years. Every year, the state of Alabama waits for the
event that carries a purse of $1.3 million. This year’s event is being held without its defending champion; Lorena Ochoa. However, the world number one Ai Miyazato is eyeing her sixth LPGA title this year, therefore she is seen in contention at the 30th spot.
The second round of the event started with Christie Cano and Karen Stupples who teed off at 8.15 am and failed to break the par. It was the early morning conditions that made the rough more slippery and the green more hard. However,
the afternoon tee time turned out to be a blessing for the 32-year-old resident of Arizona; she came out of the club house at 1.27 pm and smashed a 67 in the second round with the help of 132 strokes.  Earlier, in the Thursday round, Kerr carded 65 which was
the lowest score of the day.
She was joined by Na Yeon Choi and Mika Miyazato in the first spot. Miyazato carded 63, whereas, Choi posted a 64 to take a share in the early clubhouse lead. The trio made 12 –under with the help of 132 strokes from two rounds.
The 20 –year-old Mika Miyazato, carded five successive birdies in the front nine and four in the back nine to create an edge of one stroke from Brittany Lincicome, who was standing in second place after the round, came to an end.
Miyazato won her first professional victory last week at the Japan Women’s Open. Few weeks back, she was tied for the third place in the P&G Northwest Arkansas Championship which was sponsored by Walmart.
The young Japanese was very pleased with her shots and was confident that she will be the one holding the trophy by the end of the week. She told the press, “Especially since the P&G Arkansas tournament, my shots have been very
solid, and my putting has been very solid as well,” she said through a translator. “I've been able to be more relaxed and play my game.”
As for, Choi she carded 64 with the help of four birdies which she picked up on her way to the closing.
Kerr drafted four birdies in the last holes of the course that was stretched on 7679 yards. The 32-year-old holds the credit of winning the LPGA championship, 2010 and LPGA State Farm Classic, 2010 in which she defeated Na Yeon
Choi and Anna Nordqvist in a playoff. Speaking to the press Kerr said, “I think I played better (Thursday) but I did some other things better today. It was kind of weird. I drove the ball better today you know, but I hit my irons better yesterday.”
As for Anna Nordqvist, she seized the top 10th spot of the leaderboard by carding a 70 in the second round. Earlier, she carded a 66 in the Thursday round and had a share in the second group of the leaderboard.  Amy Yang made a
round of 66 and she was standing with a 10 under, with a group of four players chasing her; Eun-Hee Ji, Vicky Hurst, Katherine Hull and Giulia Sergas. The ladies drafted a scorecard of 9-under par.
This is it for the highlights of the second round of the Navistar LPGA Classic which was taking place at the Senator Course in Prattville, Alabama. Mika Miyazato, Cristie Kerr and Na-Yun-Choi surged to the top
of the leaderboard with the help of 12 under.
