  1. Absolutely not: Turbochargers require lower compression engines, which would mean swapping the crankshaft or con rods, you'd then have to have the injection remapped, it would cost far more than the car is worth.

  2. I would not ,why because 1.6 and 1,8 gti are 2 completly different motors the blocks are different the compression, It possible but it going to be more a headache then it worth. It kind of like turbo a Civic 1.6, It pointless. Buy sell the 1.6 and buy a GTi it going to be cheaper than doing a swap or turbocharging the current motor.

  3. As mentioned, it`s a big fat NO.

You can turbo the 1.6 Engine, but the turbo wouldn`t come from the 1.8 Golf. Some companies do offer aftermarket turbo kits but they are expensive to buy, expensive to fit and don`t offer much in the way of reliability and are pretty much pointless.

To get the turbo from a 1.8 Golf to fit, you would need to put the 1.8 engine in, but then you have something VW did originally and did a lot better job of.

  4. Absolutely, however it would be cheaper and better to buy a MK4 Golf GTi.

About the only components they share are the indicator stalks.

You'll need to change the con rods, pistons, electronics, cooling, water pump, fuel pump, gearbox, exhaust, inlet and drive shafts just to make it work reliably. Then you should change the brakes.
