Golf News: Marc Cayeux says he will recover from his injuries before the Zimbabwe Open
Marc Cayeux is planning of making a comeback in golf after seriously injuring himself in a severe accident three weeks ago.
The nine-time Sunshine Tour winner Marc Cayeux met a road accident in the afternoon on the 25th September, 2010. He was heading home when a police truck which was being driven by a police officer crashed into his car which resulted in serious
injuries to many people. According to media reports, Cayeux was travelling alone in his car on the Masvingo-Chivhu road when a police truck which was on the opposite lane hit a cow and flew in the air, and directly came in the player’s lane. The Chief Superintendent
of Police Tsitsi Sadzamare, who was the driver of the car, died on the spot, whereas, Marc Cayeux was air lifted and rushed to a local hospital, where his life was saved.
Despite the horrifying crash, the golfer from Zimbabwe said that he will be teeing off in February, 2011. The player is eyeing the Zimbabwe Open but according to his wife, this won’t be possible.
His wife Jane informed the press that her husband had crumbled to many injuries therefore despite his will to make an appearance in the upcoming event, it won’t be happening as the doctors have given a strict warning to Cayeux regarding
the issue.
She said, "At this stage, he says he wants to get fit enough to play in the Zimbabwe Open next year," said his wife Jana, "but the physiotherapists have warned that it might be six months before he is able to put weight on his feet."
The 32-year-old professional is being treated in the Netcare Milpark Hospital and is currently in the High Dependency Intensive Care Unit bed. He expressed reverence for the friends, family and fans that tried to make a contact with him and sympathized with
his wife and son.
Regarding his comeback, the Sunshine Tour Commission Gareth Tindall said, "It's always difficult when one of the golfers gets injured, and especially in this way, but we're just glad Marc is recovering, because he's actually lucky to be alive." He further
added, "We're behind him all the way, and we hope to see him on the fairways again soon.”
The commissioner is concerned about the condition of the player and is receiving regular updates but isn’t sure as to when the player will be able to stand on his feet.
In the accident, Marc Cayeux broke his left ankle. According to Marc’s wife, the winner of the Nashua Masters requires a plastic surgery but the date of grafting hasn’t been finalised yet. His right knee has been crushed, the right femur has been dislocated,
he has injuries on the right side of his neck and chest because of the seat belt and his stomach muscles has been ruptured from the bone.
With condition like this, it won’t be possible for him to get out of bed for next six months, let alone playing a game of golf. However, the major surgery has been done, whereas, the minor operations will continue till next Monday. Hopefully, he will be
discharged from the hospital in four weeks time.
The 32-year-old Cayeux is a professional player who was born in England, but as his father was a South African, thereby he is a dual national and can play for Zimbabwe as well. His first title on the Sunshine Tour came in 1999 at the Zambia Open, whereas,
his last victory was at the 2008 Nashua Masters. He has recorded two top 10’s in this season - T2 in the Dimension Date Pro-Am and T3 in the Africom Zimbabwe Open.
Apart from that, he is the leader of the Order of Merit in the Zimbabwe PGA circuit and only last month he posted a victory in the NetOne Leopard Rock Classic.
