Golf News – Tyco Golf Skills Challenge
round up
Justin Rose and Peter Hanson teamed up at the Tyco Golf Skills Challenge at the Breakers, on Monday. The European duo faced their old nemesis and their Ryder Cup rivals – Dustin Jonson and Keegan Bradley.
The Europeans once again came on top of the Americans, as they defeated them in the reverse scramble.
The Reverse Scramble was pretty neck-to-neck before it was decided in a chip off, as both the teams were evenly matched. In the chip off, the player whose chip lands closest to pin wins the holes.
The Swede Hanson chipped just two feet from the pin, whereas Keegan Bradley’s chip landed three feet away.
"The Ryder Cup? It crosses your mind, I guess," Rose pondered out loud.
While offering the celebratory Korbel Champagne to Hanson, he added, "Emotions are high at the Ryder Cup, but you always have that respect. Here, you still want to feel that adrenaline. The competitive juices always flow".
Bradley was pretty sublime at the event, as he kept his team’s hope alive with his magnificent putting. "Those guys are great competitors and it is a tough format," said Bradley.
Rose and Hanson earned $285,000 and the event will be aired on NBC in December.
On the other hand, Matt Kuchar is finding it tough but is still moving on from his Ryder Cup disappointment.
Captain Davis Love III did not pick Kuchar on the basis of his recent form, but the American was eager to avenge his defeat to Graeme McDowell.
Kuchar’s presence in the team could have proved to be a vital factor but Love decided otherwise. Matt has been going on with his own golfing life, playing tournaments around the globe.
“Every week you start from scratch,” he said.
“No matter what you do the week before, the week before doesn’t matter.  The Ryder Cup was six weeks ago or thereabouts, and I’ve played a number of events since and I’ve been able to move on”.
Matt knows what is past, is past. The Ryder Cup comes after two years, so he still has a very decent chance to avenge his defeat against the Irishman.
