Golf News: Wake-up call for Jim Furyk
If you’re an avid Jim Furyk fan then you probably remember his disqualification well. The forty year old had been disqualified from the first leg of the FedEx Cup because he slept in and missed the pro-am by a mere 5 minutes. The
golfer missed the first event but appeared in the next and now at the last event of the FedEx Cup, he’s leading the board in a tie with Luke Donald.
The news that Furyk is tied for the first place at the PGA Tour is enough of a wake-up call for the forty year old. With his current performance, it looks as if Furyk is well under way to grasp the ten million dollar prize purse.
In the first event, during the playoffs, Furyk was number three in the rankings. The malfunction in his alarm clock had caused his disqualification. Then he dropped six places in standing over the past two weeks and settled at
number 11.
Jim Furyk then played a bogey-free round on the back nine at the East Lake Atlanta, due to which he started to climb up the board. He carded a total of 65 with a 5 under while Luke Donald shared the lead at 65 as well.
With Furyk playing like a man possessed, it may be possible that the forty year old joins Tiger Woods as the only men to win the FedEx Cup after missing a round.
Tiger Woods however has chosen to skip the event completely and when Furyk was asked what he thought, he replied that he would like to join Woods after approximately 16 majors as well. Having said that, Furyk admitted that this
doesn’t seem like it’s on the cards for now.
Geoff Ogilvy stands one stroke behind the leaders and has carded a total of 67. Ogilvy has attained the score of 133 with a seven under.
Aside from Ogilvy, K.J. Choi is standing with 68 and a total of 136. Phil Mickelson made it to a 72 in his nine shot back nine, but it seems like all hopes on him winning the Championship are fading with each passing minute.
Jim Furyk is known to be an exceptional player with his ability to hit birdies on tough holes. In the current event, the golfer played a birdie in his first hole. The next few holes were spent in pars and he took a break of two
tees. In the 4th and 6th holes, the forty year old managed to play rather impressive birdies.
The front-nine by Furyk was carded with a 33 while in the back-nine, he attained a 32. At the 11th, 14th and 15th holes, the forty year old finished off with three birdies in hand. Furyk is displaying
excellent form and this has worried a lot of players including Luke Donald. With the third round in progress, many critics are anxiously awaiting the event to reveal its true winner which could very well be the man who missed his first event because of his
alarm clock.
