Golf Pakistan: 2-day foggy golf event at Lahore Gymkhana claimed by Danyaal Jahangir
Despite heavy fog engulfing the Lahore Gymkhana, Danyaal Jahangir made sure that his ball made its way to the hole, leading him to the winner’s podium to receive the trophy for amateur gross title.
A local golf event was arranged on Sunday by Javed A Khan, head of Golfers Welfare Trust, a private organization in Pakistan working for the promotion of the sport. Lahore Gymkhana Club welcomed the players on its Bermuda grass greens and fog covered fairways.
Provincial Minister for Excise and Education Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman and General Manager of Coca Cola Zafar Abbas Jafri wrapped up the event by putting the last ball of the day. They also handed over cash prizes and souvenirs to the winners and participants.
The tournament was divided into four sections based on gender and age. Danyaal Jahangir won the amateur gross title by producing the lowest score of the day in amateurs. He scored 2-under-par and surged to lead in the field. Rashid Iqbal topped the amateur
net event; coming up with a tee shot at the 13th crossing the fairway to cast the magic of an eagle on his scorecard.  In men’s senior category, Karamatullah Chaudhary and Zakaullah took the lead by hitting irons brilliantly on the fairways.
Three other players delivered an outstanding game in the two-day session. Mian Javed Ali, Dr Waqar Farooqi and Taimur Shabbir scored considerably low scores, however, could not match the prowess of Danyaal Jahangir.   In the senior category, Javed Zia and
A Sattar Khan took the lead, whereas, Azhar Khawaja and ZI Ahmed stood at the runner-up spot after chasing the winners until the ninth hole in the net section.
A brilliant performance was seen from the women’s side, when Kashfa Zafar rolled a magnificent birdie on the last hole of the tournament.  Asma Shami joined her in the gross section at the last moment after carding an identical score with twelve pars, four
birdies, and two bogeys. Sameea Javaid Ali and Naureen Malik won the second prize after carding a score at par for the net section.
Javed A Khan also introduced ball boys and caddies to the competition, adding some variety to the event. Resultantly, marvellous talent was reflected by children under the age of 12. Zahoor, Namoon, and Shawan were distinctive performers, whereas, in caddies,
Shahzad, Ilyas, and Tikka Ijaz held the lead until the last moment.
Following the prize ceremony, a dinner was arranged for the guests and the participants at the clubhouse of the course.
