  1. Grahpite for the the begginer

  2. Graphite shafts are more expensive than steel, and in general better for your game because they are physically lighter (in general golf clubs have gotten bigger AND lighter over the years). Flex refers to the "whip" in your shaft. Imagine that a stiff shaft is more like 2x4 (doesn't bend at all) while a light shaft is like a fishing rod.

If you are buying used, older drivers look for "460cc" (this refers to the size of the head and isn't an issue with brand new clubs since virtually all new drivers are 460cc). As far as irons go search for "oversized" (again refers to size, but for different reasons it is still an issue with even brand new irons). Good luck and feel free to post any other specific golf questions you might have.

  3. Steel shaft for your irons, oversized. Med flex for your driver. About 10.5 degree.  Taylormade makes some good clubs, #1 driver overall. Go to your nearest pro shop and they will help you find the clubs that is best for your style of play. They have demo's for you to try.

  4. that depends on many factors.  You probably want to get a graphite shaft.  Flex depends on gender, height, and swing distance and speed.  Type "Golf Shaft Flex" into your search bar for more info.
