Golf: Peter Senior tees off in 11th International Final Qualifying
The winner of Australian Professional Golfers Association Championship will be teeing off in the International Final Qualifying on Tuesday at Kingston Heath Golf Club in Melbourne.
This was confirmed by Peter Senior on Monday afternoon after playing in a practice match at the Kingston Heath course. The 51-year-old said, "IFQ is a great opportunity for Australian players to play in what I believe is the best tournament in the world.
Last year it was great to have the Open at St Andrews ... but this year the players are in for a real treat as we head back to Royal St George's (in England)."
IFQ is a one-day session, which has taken place every year since 2004. The purpose of the event is to give opportunity to players around the world to qualify for the Open Championship.
The 51-year-old veteran is eyeing the 151st Open Championship that will take place at the Royal St. George Golf Course in July 2011. In pursuit of contention, the Aussie will face a field of 51 players, which includes his compatriots Craig Parry,
Peter O'Malley, and Peter Fowler.
Despite the threat, the player is ready for a tough competition. While speaking to the press on Monday morning, Senior said, “My game is solid and my putter is working quite well. I am sure; it will get me through the qualifying tournament with ease. Pete
and Craig will be playing in the event. Both the boys have a good game, which will make this tournament even more exciting. I am hoping for a breakthrough.”
The confidence in Senior’s statement maculates, owing to the courtesy of Australian PGA Championship win. The Aussie defeated 2006 U.S. Open champion Geoff Ogilvy in a playoff and became the oldest player to lift the trophy.
Once again, the veteran is looking forward for a victory at Kingston Heath Golf Club, which will lead him into the historic ground of Royal St. George for the 19th time.
