Golf: Phil Mickelson's caddie runs errand for a football match
Phil Mickelson’s caddie is exploring a new profession since the Master Champion is sitting idle.
Mickelson will tee off in the Abu Dhabi Championship in the last week of January 2011 under the European Tour, which means his caddie, Jim Mackay aka Bones will have to sit home doing nothing. Well, Bones does not agree to it,
which is why he has started to run some errands in the meantime. The caddie served as an assistant Sports Illustrated photographer during a football match between Auburn and Oregon.
The job was not much different. All he had to do was carry the lens equipment from one side to the other on the direction of Robert Beck. Self-explanatory from the job description presented, Bones was a caddie to Beck.
When asked about the new experience, Bones said, “It was a wonderful experience. There was lots of energy in the crowd, as football is altogether a different game with a different vibe.”
Beck and Bones met at the 2010 Masters, where Beck took a few memorable shots of the winner. The duo developed a healthy association with each other and as a football match was about to hit Phoenix, Beck called for assistance to
which Bones said yes.
Now the question arises as to why did Beck call Bones for assistance? Could he not find any other apprentice in whole Phoenix? Well, the answer to this question is quite simple. The caddie lives in the same vicinity where the match
took place and has worked a few times in his early days as an assistant to a photographer. But ironically, he doesn’t know how to operate a camera!
Bones tweeted Tuesday night that he messed up the first half. When inquired what made him to say that, he responded that he forgot to take the lens cap off during the entire first half, which means the first 30 minutes of the match
were not shot.
Seems like Jim Mackay had a good time in his free days. The Georgia-born caddie will be accompanying Phil Mickelson to the Abu Dhabi Championship, which starts in a few weeks’ time. The duo has been working together for four years
and demonstrated an outstanding partnership.
