  1. I know... why are they so many clubs in your bag?  Why can't you use just one club for every shot?  Well, it's impossible to use one club for every type of shot because golf is a complex game.

    Woods

You have Wood 1 (Driver), Wood 3 through 7.  They are used for long distance shots and most commonly used off the tee.  Wood 1 or Driver is for shooting your ball to the fairway.

    Irons

Now you got Iron 3 through 9.  You use irons to shoot from the fairway to the green or short par 3.

    Wedge

You can use this for shooting short distance shots, below 100 yards or get your ball out of a bunker.

    Putter

Finally you are on the green, just roll (putt) that ball to the hole with your putter.

  2. Just a note for RBKgolf above me:

If you make golf clubs why haven't you included: -

2 Irons - Remember Jack N's a few years ago that won him the masters title.

    8/9 - Fairway Woods - I Use a 9 wood

Hybrid Clubs - The biggest growing club market in the world

    Driving Irons

    Chippers

  3. putter is the most important iron...

it gets the ball in the hole *(if you use it correctly)...

the irons are for the fair-way(the distance between the holes)

the clubs are for teeing off-distance..

now you have a chipper...  for sand traps *(gets you out of the hole  so to speak)

but most important is the correct shoes, comfort is important also sporting a cute outfit always helps my game...

u also can get a glove to help the grip of these clubs...

  4. Are you referring to woods, irons, and putters?

Woods are used for tee shots and long approach shots.  The are now normally made of titanium or steel, but used to be made of wood, thus the name.  They mostly have pear shaped heads with a low center of gravity.

Irons are more of a blade shape and can be made out of steel, titanium, or mixtures of other metals.  They are used for accurate and shorter shots that you hit to the target.  There are two main types of irons: forged and cast.  forged is a pressed, tempered metal with a better consisitency for feel.  Cast irons are exactly that, poured into a cast and set to form to the mold.

Putters can be blades or mallets.  It's the club you use to putt (or roll) the ball on the green.  They are designed to hit the ball and roll it across the turf and not get the ball into the air like to other clubs.

  5. Putters:

light with flat faces. Meant for short accurate attempts to sink a ball on manicured turf.

    Driver:

Heavy with faces ranging from flat to fairly bevelled. Designed to hit a ball a long distance.

    Wedge:

Medium weight with a highly bevelled face. Designed to pop the ball up over obstacles like rough grass or out of a sand pit.

The distinction of irons or woods is not really that important.

    ------------------

Most putters and wedges are cast metal (irons) but drivers can be woods or irons.

  6. You can break them down into

    1) Woods (or metal woods)

         Driver, 2 wood, 3 wood, 4 wood, 5 wood

Usually used off of the tee box, but can be used off of the fairway when need a long distance shot

    2) Irons

         1-9

Usually used off of the fairway, varying in distance lower numbers have longer distances, but can be used off of the tee box ie par 3's or short par 4's

    3) Wedges

         Pitching, Sand, Lob, Gab, Approach

Used when hitting to the green or when in a sand trap, or when you are close to the green and you want to hit a chip shot

    4) Putter

Usually used when on the green, but can be used as a "Texas wedge" when just off of the green on the fringe and want to roll to ball to the hole.

Then you can add hybrid clubs

Just like irons, used off of the fairway usually or in sand trap

They look like woods, but have the distance of irons, can be easier to hit for some people off of the fairway.

    Hope that helps.
