Golf Retrospective: Top ten golfers in the 1970s limelight (Part 1)
Heat a piece of lime and you burn the oxygen and hydrogen to produce an intense white light called limelight. Discovered in 1820, this technique was used for the first time in the public theatres largely in the 19th century. ‘Limelight’ was then
used figuratively for those actors who were the centre of attention on-stage. Nowadays it can be used for anyone who holds the public interest, even the golfers.
Every decade there is a certain flock of golfers that rules the world of golf and refuses to falter. The year 1970, also considered to be the official modern beginning of the PGA tour has ten majestic names to it. Some historians trace the beginning back
until 1968 when Joseph C. Dey was appointed as the head commissioner of the ‘Tournament Players Division'. The division had split from the PGA of America. Here are the 10 players who displayed amazing golfing styles and uncountable victories in the era of
1970.
