Golf: Rory McIlroy challenges Tiger Woods

After posting a 68 on Friday at the Emirates Golf Club, Rory McIlroy challenged Tiger Woods in the on-going Omega Dubai Desert Classic 2011 golf tournament.
Rory McIlroy seems overconfident with a set of eight birdies he netted on Thursday. The 21-year-old said that he was not impressed by the former world number one and was looking forward to challenging him on the ground.
He said, “If I come up against Tiger I look forward to the challenge. I do not think you should be intimidated by anybody on Tour. I believe in myself and my abilities.”
The Northern Irish smacked a victory on the same course two years back, but could not defend his title against Martin Kaymer in 2010.
However the rookie is up for a challenge this year due to the low numbers he has been attaining on the desert swings.
Meanwhile, the former world number one, Woods is catching up on him with a fabulous eagle at the 18th hole in the first round and a blemish-free 66 in the second.
Despite that, the 35-year-old who became the Rookie of the Year in 1995 has nothing to say. When Woods was asked to comment on the statement made by McIlroy, he chose to remain silent.
However, he commented on his own game and said, “I felt it was important to post a number and I played myself right back into the tournament. I controlled my trajectory a lot better. I worked out a few things last night that I didn't like.”
Woods’ record speaks for him as he has won 97 tournaments in his career including 14 majors. This is not the first time that Rory McIlroy has given such comments on the greatest golfer alive.
In the 2010 Ryder Cup, McIlroy captured a lot of media glitz by Tweeting rude remarks about Woods’ game and urged his captain Colin Montgomerie to pair him against Woods in the singles. To his despise, Woods was paired against Francesco Molinari whom he
beat by four points.
