Question:

Golf Rules on using a Hockey stick?

I carry a wooden hockey stick (Field Hockey, not Ice Hockey) in my golf bag.

When the ball is under a low bush or if I might damage my iron on a tree in the follow through, I use a hockey stick instead.

Are there any rules against this? (do you know the rule number or link to read it?)

  1. yes its fine as long as noone else cares dude.

  2. http://www.usga.org/playing/rules/books/...

see rule 4.  The hockey stick is probably a non conforming club.  I think it is generally a better idea to take relief and any strokes than to try to hit from the most difficult positions.

  3. The wooden field hockey stick does not conform with Appendix ll DESIGN OF CLUBS." The club must not be substantially different from the traditional and customary form and make". It further explains what the definition encompasses.

  4. Hockey sticks do not conform to the guidelines for club design so are therefore against the rules.  I believe it is in the appendix of the rule book where it outlines the shape and construction of clubs that are allowed.

  5. Appendix II of the rules contains the rules on clubs.

From section 4bi: "the distance from the heel to the toe of the clubhead is not greater than 5 inches (127 mm)".

There are probably a few other clauses it violates also.
