Golf Rundown:  Rory Mcilroy Bids Farewell to the Players Championship
World number-nine golfer, Rory Mcilroy, lately publicized that he would not be competing in the Players Championship, commencing next season. The twenty-one-year-old Irish, proclaimed this statement in front of a massive media gathering, in Dubai. This news came as a surprise for everyone, as Mcilroy will be contending for the World Number One title, commencing in Dubai. Mcilroy exited himself, from the U.S tour, as new rules and regulations have been set in place by the Professional Golf Association (PGA).In accordance with the new PGA policy, a member r must compete in 12 to 13 competitions in a year to, maintain his or her association with this golfing organization. Since Mcilroy is a thorough professional, being able to compete in both the European and U.S tour is next to impossible. Thus Mcilroy will only be contending for the European clashes. Since Mcilroy has announced his exit from the U.S tour, he will subsequently depart from the Players Champion, labeled by many as the fifth major golfing competition. Mcilroy was doubtful for his future plans but assured the media that the £1million reward money, was not his incentive. He cited
"I don't like the golf course for a start. Not to say The Players is not a great event - it is very prestigious and it would be great to win it one day - but it just might not suit the schedule next year. I am going to play Quail Hollow the week before (he is the defending champion) and then there are big tournaments in Europe. You have the World Match Play (in Spain the following week) and then the BMW PGA Championship (at Wentworth) straight after.”
On being inquired about what he idealized in Saw Grass Golf Club, the Irish said openly
"It's a Pete Dye course and I find it very awkward off the tee. You are hitting across fairways all the time. It creates angles and visually it is very tough off the tee. He makes you feel uncomfortable because it looks like you've only got a little bit of fairway to hit, but actually once you get up there it's a little bit wider."
