Golf Special Edition: Tiger Woods’ top 10 moments (Part 2)
Although, Tiger seems to be sleeping for now but there was a time when he was roaring at the world with his magnificent putts and longest drives. To revive the magic of that era, here is the second half of “Golf Special Edition: Tiger Woods’ top 10 moments”
No.5 - 2000 British Open
It took Tiger Woods only five years after turning professional to claim his first grand slam title. At just 23, it was the 2000 British Open that vaulted this title on his wall of achievements. Tiger posted a magnificent score of 19 under to claim the victory
by eight strokes. This was his fourth major victory.
No.4 - 2006 British Open
Statistically speaking, it was his 11th victory at a major. However, in literal terms it was so much more. Woods destroyed the Royal Liverpool course with a score of -18 to win his third Open. He claimed this victory in less than three months
after his father, Earl Woods’ death.
After holding the Claret Jug, Tiger burst into tears and hugged his caddy, Steve Williams. Later, he dedicated this victory to his late father and said that it was he, who taught him the importance of being mentally strong on the golf course. Now, who says
Tiger acts like a robot and does not share the credit of victory with anyone?
No.3 - The Chip at 2005 Masters
One can bet on whether golf fans still remember Tiger’s spectacular chip at the 2005 Masters or not? In fact, it is so famous that if simply written “the chip”, golf fans would understand it! During the fourth round of 2005 Masters, Tiger chipped in for
a birdie on the 16th hole to the tumultuous applause of the gallery, pushing normally the reserved commentator, Verne Lundquist, to bellow: “Oh my goodness! In your life have you ever seen anything like that?!”
Tiger Woods won the playoff against Chris DiMarco by sinking a birdie on the first playoff hole to claim his forth Master’s victory.
No.2 - 1997 Masters
Tiger Woods’ career’s second most interesting moment is probably the sweetest for him as well, as he claimed his first Masters title in 1997. At the tender age of 21, he kicked off the game’s color barrier and gave a shut up call to all the critics who doubted
that a colored golfer won’t be able to win golf’s biggest tournament. Tiger rose to victory with a lead of nine strokes against Tom Kite.
No.1 - 2008 U.S. Open
Tiger’s most recent major victory, his 14th in all, will go down in history as his best so far. Even Tiger himself considers it as his greatest achievement. Here is a recap: Rocco Mediate was in the lead at Torrey Pines, when Tiger made a birdie
and pushed the Open to a playoff.
The eighteen holes of playoffs concluded with both the golfers still tied, before the world number one won on the first sudden-death hole. This was the same tournament in which Tiger had a sore knee and a double fractured leg, but even then, he continued
till the time his name was announced as the final winner.
This is it for Tiger Woods’ top ten moments, but surely this isn’t all. Tiger might be suffering for now but no one can deny his greatness. Tiger Woods has been an icon of perfection and he will remain a legend for the ages to come.
