Golf Special Report: 2010 Ned bank Challenge betting odds
The 30th edition of Ned bank Challenge is about to hit the Sun City and for the first time, Americans will not be a threat to the field as Chevron World Challenge has distracted them to California.
The 12-man field comprises of four Major winners, Sunshine Tour Order of Merit leaders and players from the European circuit. However, minimal resistance will be faced by the Europeans as Phil Mickelson along with his striker has taken a
withdrawal from the event, which carries a purse of $5 million.
This leaves Lee Westwood in strong position and makes him the strongest player in the betting preview:
Lee Westwood:
The world number one is in strong form which is evident from his recent performances. The Englishman finished second in HSBC Champions and third in Dubai World Championship. However, despite having an edge, the 39-year-old is not confident
about his game, owing to the calf injury, which got worse in Dubai’s heat.
Westy said, "My game is rusty. I hit shots that I wouldn't normally hit, so hopefully when I do have a chance to practice properly and sharpen up, there will be improvements."
Despite the problem, the world number one performed superbly at Earth Course and what lies ahead should not be much of an issue for the champion.
Ross Fisher:
Yet another Englishman and that qualifies him for the top three. The Englishman started out fine in Dubai World Championship, but faltered in the last round. However, that does not restrict him from playing good in this tournament.
Moreover, the veteran finished third on the same course one year ago and could not reach the top as he finished one stroke shy of the play-off. The player would surely be heated up in order to restore what he lost.
Gary Player Country Club has been designed for long drivers with its high altitude. This gives an edge to the player, who is long and accurate in driving.
Robert Allenby:
Third on the betting preview is the defending champion himself.
Looking at the trend set by past winners, a feature puts him on the top. According to this trend, defending champions like Nick Price, Ernie Els and Jim Furyk have been successful in keeping their thrones safe. Therefore, chances are that Robert Allenby
too will keep his title attached until the next year.
Moreover, he has been winless on the 2010 PGA tour, which was the case last year as well but the end was quite different. Bid is that the Aussie will surge to the top provided he focuses on his iron play and driving.
Anders Hansen:
The South African is in excellent form and that puts him ahead of everyone else. The player won twice in the season at Joburg Open and Vodacom Open. Moreover, he also finished third in South African Open and Alfred Dunhill Championship, which tags him as
a tough candy.
The rookie won the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit last year and made the cut into this event. The confidence from four high finishes can take him to the top. Moreover, if he has tackled the course in Dubai then stakes are high for the Gary Player Country Club,
which is quite easy to handle.
This is it for the betting odds of the Ned bank Challenge, which will be kicking off on 2nd December in Sun City, South Africa. 12 men will be battling for the winner prize of $1.25 million, which is a massive amount for the yearend. Westwood,
Hansen, Fisher and Allenby are the contenders that are perceived to perk-up by the end of the weekend. However, for more details switch to bettor.com.
