Golf Special Report: Alena Sharp awarded for the second time making Canada proud
Alena Sharp has been awarded the Canada’s Female Professional Golfer of the Year for the second time.
This has happened for the second time in a stretch of three years for the female golfer from Hamilton.
According to latest reports, the award has been handed out to the 29-year-old female golfer by the Golf Journalists Association of Canada. The honour was determined after the organization held its annual poll at the year end and thus awarded Sharp with the
2010 award after she completed her 5 full years of the LPGA Tour.
The 29-year-old female golfer turned professional in the year 2003 and collected the Edith Cummings Munson Golf Award in the same year as well. With a total of 8 professional victories, Sharp is currently standing on the 56th place of the LPGA
Tour money list.
The resident of Phoenix, Arizona played 20 tournaments the earlier spell and managed to make 15 cuts. From the earlier stated, Sharp ended with 1 top-ten finish at which, Jessica Shepley, who is a golfer from Oakville and plays on the Futures Tour, ended
at the runner up position.
Alena Sharp represents Canada at every front and is recently playing at the LPGA Tour that she joined in the year 2005. The female golfer graduated from New Mexico State University where she earned experience of team golf. As for other Tours, the 29-year-old
golfer played at the Futures Tour from 2004 to 2005.
From other awards, the Male Professional of the year was handed out to the golfer Graham DeLaet. The golfer from Weyburn, Sask. has a total of 4 professional victories in records and is also currently on the PGA Tour. The 28-year-old golfer is also the winner
of the Canadian Tour order of Merit in the year 2009 and had an exceptional rookie season.
DeLaet is currently on the 100th place on the money list and has collection of three top ten finishes in his records. Unfortunately, the Canadian will be treating his swollen disc and will be undergoing a surgery this week. With DeLaet dealing
with the surgery, his fans might not be able to see their favourite golfer in action till March.
Other than that, the Female Amateur and Male Amateur of the year award was handed out to golfers Jennifer Kirby representing Paris and Dave Bunker from Woodbridge, respectively.
