Golf Special Report: Celebrities and Golf (Part 2)
Alice Cooper is yet another eminent personality who went from being a crazy rock star to a humble golfer. His story is so interesting that it’s even been published in a book. The book published was actually an autobiography by Alice Cooper called
Alice Cooper, Golf Monster.
Alice has attributed to golf as being the rescuer and helping him overcome his addiction to alcohol. Cooper even stated that he took up golf so he could replace one addiction with another. Even the tagline of his book is ‘A Rock ‘n’ Roller’s 12 Steps to
becoming a Golf Addict.’ The rock star has taken part in various Pro-am competitions and usually plays the sport six days a week.
Since 1997, Alice has sponsored an annual golf competition, known as Alice Cooper Celebrity AM Golf Tournament. All the earnings from the tournament go to his charity, known as Solid Rock. Alice has also appeared in advertisements for Callaway Golf equipment
and was a guest on A Golfer's Travels. In August 2006, Alice even participated in the celebrity equivalent of the Ryder Cup known as the All Star Cup in South Wales. Winning on the first day, but losing on the second, Alice still gave a good game
in Wales. Almost as passionate about his music, Cooper has clearly made golf an integral part of his life.
Coming from Rock n Roll to soap operas, Jack Wagner is yet another charming celebrity come golfer. Balancing his career with his passion, Wagner makes sure to give adequate time on the course and hence satisfy his zeal for golf. The Bold and Beautiful star
headed the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship in 2006. This tournament was staged against his Hollywood friends who have the same standard of golfing abilities as him.
Losing his father to multiple Myeloma and having a brother diagnosed with Leukaemia, Wagner initiated a golf tournament with the proceeds going to The Leukaemia and Lymphoma Society. The Jack Wagner Celebrity Classic tournaments have raised more than $600,000
in its first two years to fund the intense cancer research and patient services. Making sure he does what he loves and giving back to the community at the same time, Wagner is definitely on a roll.
Wagner’s love interest for quite a while has been another actor, Heather Locklear, who’s also passionate for golf. Lucky for Wagner, Heather and he share the same hobbies. Locklear attended the Michael Douglas and Friends Celebrity Golf Tournament in California
in 2007 and showed her passion for golf. Not only does she play the sport, she always makes sure to support her man. Locklear is often seen alongside Wagner while he’s hitting on the course. She was there to motivate him on the 20th Anniversary
American Century Championship golf tournament. For some people following a golf match could be boring, but Locklear could do anything love. Now that’s the spirit.
Just like Tony Romo, Michael Jordan is another professional athlete who really seems to enjoy golf. In an interview once, Jordan was asked what he would want to be doing when he’s 40. The charismatic basketball player replied that he would want to play golf
every day. Following the tradition by all the celebrities who love golf, Jordan also hosted his own tournament known as the Michael Jordan Celebrity Golf Invitational. This event was held in the Bahamas and the funds from the invitational will go to charity.
Not only does he enjoy playing the sport, but also he likes watching it as well. Jordan was there at the Ryder Cup this year to support the American team his Wales. Even though, the Americans lost, the patriotism and passion shown by the basketball player
is amazing. He was also at the Presidents Cup last year where he went to support his friend Fred Couples. It might have been the energy that Jordan brought to the field that led the Americans to victory.
Overall, Golf is a sport enjoyed by everyone. Regardless of whether you are known for basketball or acting, golf has a special place in the lives of many famous personalities.
