Golf Special Report: Corey Pavin to regain playing form after losing Ryder Cup 2010
The striker of the Ryder cup team was seen teeing off at the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship after a gap of 45 weeks. Like his team, Corey Pavin lost the tournament, but won $5130 by finishing in the 57th spot.
People expect high from the leaders that is why the entire pressure of the team’s performance was on the captains, i.e. Corey Pavin and Colin Montgomerie. Both the big boys did justice with their job; they selected the finest players for their respective
teams and kept them together on the course, with terrible weather conditions persisting. One team won (Europe) and the other lost (US) by a difference of ½ point. On the whole, they did what they were expected to do. However, in this time, one thing suffered
and that was their form.
Corey Pavin made an appearance at the TPC Potomac with a hope to revive his game, but by the end of the tournament, that purpose got shattered; the striker, drafted four rounds of 76-70-75-74. True the tournament was meant for the players above the age
of 50, but there were golfers on the field like Ted Schulz, who was the same age as Corey Pavin and he made $29,025 from the event .This signifies, it was not the age barrier which halted the Californian from giving his best. In fact, it was lack of practice.
The 51-year-old did not take part in any competitive golf event in last 45 weeks, which resulted in him losing his game.
He told this to the press, who was curious to know the reason behind his terrible performance in Scotland. The losing side captain said,
"I'm not tired at all, I'm just not golf ready, I haven't really touched a club in 45 days. That's the issue this week. I'm just rusty. For me, once the Ryder cup was over, it's over. It's time to move on, time to play golf and finish the year off on the
Champions Tour."
The captain mentioned Ryder Cup in his statement. This came out abruptly, although the question was not about the Ryder Cup tension. One week back, Pavin’s squad lost the Ryder Cup title to the Europeans in Wales. Despite the loss, the team of twelve men
received lots of appreciation and love from their fans. In fact, on Sunday when Pavin was signing autographs after the tournament, a spectator came forward and praised the performance of the team. He said, "Thanks for everything you did last week, you
should be proud."
He sure is proud and why shouldn’t he be? He chose Tiger Woods, who in return defeated Francesco Molinari in the singles; he chose Jeff Overton, who earned the most points in the foursomes and four balls and he chose Dustin Johnson, who defeated the winner
of the USPGA championship, Martin Kaymer. Therefore, on the whole, he deserves the confidence.
However, currently, Pavin needs to concentrate on his game thereby; he decided to make a comeback in competitive golf. Speaking to the press he said,
"I thought I did the best that I could do, I have no second thoughts about anything I did. I'm very comfortable about that. It's done. The guys played hard. I know what I did and how I did what I did. It's nice to hear it from other people, but to me it's
about me giving it my best effort, and I did. It's the Ryder Cup. It's important, but it's done."
Pavin blamed the rust on his clubs, rather than the fatigue, for his 15- over-par score in the last senior major championship of 2010. According to the experts, Pavin needs to shed the burden of Ryder Cup memories away, so that he can concentrate on his
game. His performance at the Avenel Farm was terrible with eighteen bogeys and two double bogeys but this does not mean he will continue with it, after all the bulldog once held the record of 150 -weeks in top 10 of the OWGR.
