Golf Special Report: For now, Barack Obama and John Boehner only have 'golf ' in common
The president of the United States, Barack Obama and the Rep. John Boehner may have different opinions in the world of American politics but one thing they can’t argue about is their love for the game of golf.
According to Michael Steel, who is the spokesman of Mr. Boehner, there is no ill feeling what so ever from their side. On the contrary, Steel added further that there isn’t much of a personal or a working relationship either.
Mr. Obama and Mr. Boehner both play golf rather frequently but where their frequency of playing levels are concerned; their skill scale is a bit imbalanced. According to one of America’s leading digest, Mr. Boehner is ranked as a more fervent golfer due
to the various fund raisers orchestrated by him.
These fund raisers were all held at various influential golf courses by the House speaker who holds a handicap of 6.3. The sixty year old was known as the 36th paramount golfer in the year 2008.
Coming over to the President of the United States, Mr. Barack Obama, his love for this game is rather new. As compared to the handicap of 6.3, Mr. Obama holds a mid 20 from last November.
From the White House record, Vice President Joe Biden holds the record of best shot and has a handicap of 8.4 from the 2008 listing.
Mr. Obama and Mr. Boehner share a partiality interest towards golf, cigarettes and some frequent verbal broadsides. Both had a lot going on between them this fall and according to reports, Boehner disparaged the president quite a lot this year. This included
homing in by the White house on the lawmaker so that the House could stay in the hands of the Democrats.
On the other hand, Obama molested Boehner repeatedly while he had his campaign trail underway. Obama had mocked Boehner’s claim of passing a Wall Street reform is just like “killing an ant with the help of nuclear weapon”
Considering the strategies thus followed by both of these esteemed individuals, some democrats were of the view that it was a waste of time, since many Americans were unaware of him. The administration however, said that Mr. Boehner was a Washington insider
who takes pleasure in the mollified country clubs.
Last week, the President addressed the republicans along with Mr. Boehner as ‘cocky’ about their election prospects and many agreed with Mr. Obama’s statement. Both of these personalities had thus been pretty hard on each other midst their trial. After the
elections ended, the President had placed a call to the House speaker and had informed him that he was looking forward to work with him. Boehner said that they had a rather pleasant conversation and then stated that the voters have sent an “unmistakable message”
to the president.
According to Mr. Boehner, if he meets somebody in his office that’s an acquaintance from the golf course, then he would love to listen to him. He directed his statement further by saying the individual has to come up with a good argument as well.
“I would listen to him” Mr. Boehner said in the year 2005.
Coming to what happens when Boehner enters the Oval office, they only talk about golf. According to Mr. Boehner, the first thing after he enters the office would be a discussion of the almost-same-colour they have and then golf. Some may add their vice of
cigarette smoking in the previous statement as well.
Of course, the American individuals need a lot more than a common affection for golf but this may be a new path for the American president and the House Speaker to find out more clauses to agree on other than the game.
