Golf Special Report: Is Dustin Johnson 2011’s Tiger Woods?
With the year just starting, American golfer Dustin Johnson is caught amidst relationship rumours, something Tiger Woods was facing start of 2010. It was reported that the player is dating the LPGA golfer, Natalie Johnson. However, Dustin has recently given
clear cut statement to the AP.
“For people to say I went home to repair the relationship is completely false,” Johnson said.
“We’re not in a relationship. And yes, me and Natalie have spent some time together, but we’re not in a relationship. There’s all kinds of stuff going on in the media. Actually, some of this stuff is comical,” said Dustin.
The player came out in the open because he was tired of hearing rumours of him being with Natalie. The media even linked Dustin’s absence from the Sony Open due to his relationship problems. The false statements were that Johnson’s previous girlfriend, Amanda
Caulder found out about Gulbis and that’s why he is going home. Johnson corrected the rumours saying that he broke up with Caulder a few months ago and wasn’t seeing anyone since two months. He said he went home to repair some family matters and it had nothing
to with relationship problems.
Johnson did say that he and Natalie spent some time together, but he isn’t dating however. Apparently, Natalie presumes different as she herself was reported on saying to Golf.com that her and Dustin are dating when she was accompanying the player in his
gallery in Kapalua last weekend.
It is funny how golf always has its share of rumours and that too related to affairs and relationships. Last year, Tiger was involved with many other women and his extra marital affairs eventually resulted in the player’s divorce. The news of Wood’s infidelity
came out in the open in November 2009 and that’s when Tiger’s downfall started. Where some of the rumours were true, some were just exaggerated to spice things up in tabloids. Every other day, the media would report a new affair or a scandal Tiger was involved.
The rumours eventually led to what was the worst downfall in history of golf. First time in his career, Tiger didn’t win a single event and even lost his number one spot to Lee Westwood.
Dustin, becoming a victim of rumours, must be thanking God that he doesn’t have a wife. Things might not be that bad for him since the rumours weren’t even true. Overall, its stories like these that makes the sport and its players all the more interesting.
