Golf Special Report: Louis Oosthuizen: The man to beat
The current Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen is on the hit list after winning the Africa Open at the East London Golf Club last weekend. This title has been given to Louis amidst the approach of the 2011 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship next week. All the players
are excited for the first grand event of the 2011 season.
Louis is currently leading the money list for 2011 and now his win at the home soil and made him even more confident for the HSBC Championship. Confidence wasn’t something that was lacking in the player, seeing how he won the oldest major championship in
the history of golf last year. In his win at the Africa Open, the player birdied the first hole of a sudden-death playoff and defeated English Chris Wood and Spanish Manuel Quiros to win the title.
“It was my first victory since the Open Championship and it was very special that it took place in South Africa in front of my home fans and friends and family.”
“I am now really looking forward to the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship next week and hope I can continue my good form. I will be working on my putting between now and then as I will need to be at my best to come out on top of such a strong field of
world class players."
Oosthuizen took up the US PGA Tour membership after his win at St.Andrews in July. His win at the Africa Open hence can also be termed as a twin assault on the 2011 PGA and European Tour. The 28 year old is definitely feeling confident now.
Oosthuizen’s confidence could be threatening to all the players looking to strike gold in the seasons ahead. Louis previous best finish in the United States was when he tied for ninth place at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio in August.
Even though Oosthuizen has won the Africa Open, he is not only the major winner charging for the prestigious Falcon Trophy. The US Open winner, Graeme McDowell, also gave some good golf at the Tournament of Champions in Hawaii.
McDowell posted a course record 62 and finish second place at the season opening event for the 2011 PGA season. A second place finish in the first event on tour is quite good and also signals to what can be expected from the player in the season to come.
Seeing how it is, all the players are working hard and are really excited for the Abu Dhabi Championship.
