Golf Special Report: Time to play Frisbee with Golf
Toshiba came out with its all new no-glasses 3D TV, The Spice girls will be holding their gig at the Olympic Games 2010 and President Sarkozy has regimented the reopening of all blocked fuel depots in France. Other than these updates, a Disc Golf Tournament
is going to be held all over the Western North Carolina.
Those who want to play golf with no tee times and just want to show up and play, then the Region 9 Sidewinder Disc Golf Tournament is just the right place for them. Where the no-glasses 3D TV requires approx. $2,900, this event won’t be costing one dime.
The event is taking place this Sunday and Saturday and is basically a golf, ball and Frisbee combo fundraiser for Recreation and Park Association. This is the pet project of Rhett Langston, who is the director of Waynesville Parks and Recreation.
According to Langston, the fundraiser is held every year by Region 9 in order to support the N.C. Recreation and Parks Association for its various conferences and training projects. The Director said that although these golf matches are held every year but
this time he wanted to do something different, something that could bring in a number of people for regional harmony.
The disc golf courses were available and they were free. Therefore, the director and his team have planned to arrange an event that offers a weekend full of fun for all ages, a walk through the woods and toss of the Frisbees.
The Frisbee-golf combo will be played by players taking turns in shooting the tee for the hole. The hole is depicted by a large basket and the players will be playing large discs that vary in the weight. The game will include obstacles such as trees, bushes
and hills like a normal golf match usually holds.
The number and type of people allowed to play are not restricted in any sense. The event will be played in pairs and anyone can sign up for it. The players however will be divided into three categories- The novice, recreation and professional.
Those who make it to the novice division will play the disc golf tournament of 18 holes while those in the recreational and professional teams will play a 36-hole event. The event is scheduled at the regional location on Saturday and will start at ten in
the morning.
According to the Director of Waynesville Parks and Recreation, The disc golf tournament will be representing the four corners of WNC which are Mars Hill and Fletcher making the south and the north, while the east and west will be the Black Mountain and the
Waynesville.
From each Regional division stated above, the top scoring teams on Saturday will qualify for the upcoming championship held at Richmond Hill Disc Golf Course at Sunday. The event held in Asheville will host 4 teams from the recreational and then 4 teams
from the professional division.
Those three teams that will top the recreational as well as the professional division will be awarded the winner’s trophy while all players shall be entitled to receive one disc and one T-shirt. The fundraiser will also cater the competing players with lunch.
The Lunch will be offered to all players that will be present at every regional division on Saturday.
