Golf Special Report: Wood's Scandals can not stop charity
It is largely believed that scandals and charity do not go parallel, especially s*x scandals and charity, which normally do not mix.
The Deutsche Bank Championship and Tiger Woods, are the rare case where mixing of both is not considered as a problem. Due to which the Tiger Woods Foundation will remain the most prominent beneficiary of charity that will come from the next month’s PGA tour event at TPC Boston in Norton.
The CEO of Deutsche Bank Americas, Seth Waugh said that the Bank will stand with Tiger Woods foundation despite of Wood’s controversies and scandals. Troubles for the world’s most famous golfer started since Thanksgiving, when series of Wood’s extramarital affairs were revealed. Seth Waugh said that his bank is not promoting Tiger Woods, as they are not sponsoring Tiger Woods, but the bank is partner in tournament that will benefit his charity.
According to Waugh, the bank and Woods charity foundation have been amazing partners and the bank believes that great partners that help in doing great work should not be left isolated when they need help.
"They've been a great partner," Waugh said. "I'm a big believer that when you have great partners and they need help, that you help them, you don't abandon them. Obviously, they have issues. We're excited and proud to be partners with them."
According to Waugh, the greater difficulty would be Tiger Woods' absence from the $7.5 million tournament. In this season, Tiger Woods has only played in seven tour events. On the FedEx Cup points lists, Tiger Woods in on the 111th position and he needs to improve in order to qualify for the 100-person field in Norton.
Waugh said, "Obviously, we all want Tiger to be here, but if he's not, we have the best 100 players in the world."
TCP Boston will bring some more changes this year. The course owned by the PGA tour witnessed a major repair few years ago, while minor changes from time to time.
This year’s big change is on the second hole of par-5, 542-yard. Brad Willams, the general manager of the club, in his briefing said that Gil Hanse, the course architect has reworked on the course with the help of PGA Tour veteran and Brad Fxon, a member of TPC Boston.
The players that will try to reach in two will observe a smaller green, as the area on the green has been decreased to 5,900 square feet from 8,500 square feet. Players trying to reach in two will find a much smaller green.
According to Williams, there are also "two gnarly bunkers” that are positioned in the old catch basin to the left of the green, with a strategic mound that will protect the front left. Those players that will choose to lay up will also observe a rough fairway that will make the players approach more difficult.
Faxon reported that the second hole will be tougher to play this year as compared to the past.
"This once birdie hole will now put all players to the test," he said.
In addition, another major change is the addition of a new tee on the third hole that is extending from the par-3 from 180 to 208 yards. According to Williams, the longer tee might be used only once or twice during the tournament. However, PGA Tour will have more options with the longer tee in setting up the course.
