Golf Special Report - Redstone Golf Club home of Shell Houston Open-part 2
This is the second part of the course preview of the Redstone Golf Club, which will be hosting the Shell Houston Open.
Hole # 6
The par-4 hole stretches on 460 yards. This hole is considered as one of the most difficult holes on the front nine. The fairway has strips of water running across making it difficult for the long hitters to target the farthest
section of the fairway. Approach the green from the right side to avoid the water on the left.
Hole # 7
This is the first par three of the course, which is also the shortest, but one of the worst adversaries. Attack the centre of the green, which has water on the left and a bunker on the right. The green rolls back into the fairway,
therefore try incorporating accuracy into the shot. Another crucial factor on this hole is the wind, which directs from the right side and has the tendency of deflecting the ball into trouble.
Hole # 8
This is the second par-5 hole of the course, which has abundant birdie opportunities. The green can be approached with two shots, but the real threat is waiting at the green, which has lake on the right side and a several sand
bunkers on the opposite. The green is open for attack, but has a tradition of rolling the ball into the troubles on the sides.
Hole # 9
The front nine of the Redstone Golf Club wraps with a par-3, which is an easy target. There are trees between the green and the tee that have the tendency of catching the errant shots. Take a direct aim at the green with a 3-wood
taking account the wind and putt from the back to avoid the ball from rolling into the ridge.
Hole # 10
This is a par-4 hole, which stretches on 382 yards. Aim the tee shot towards the right side of the fairway, as it will leave the player with one yard to reach the green. However, be careful, the green is elevated on the sides
and rolls back into the fairway. Therefore, a long shot on the edges might force the player from chipping from the rough.
Hole #11
This is the most difficult hole on the course, without any reservations. The tee shot requires accuracy, as the fairway is extremely sloped towards the left and a bunker sits on the far end side of the landing area. The landing
area for the second shot is barricaded by water on the left and out of bounds on the right. Wind can come into account at the green, but it can be tackled with the perfect club selection. Meanwhile, the green is three-tiered and it is elevated on the left,
rolls onto the right and slopes steeply towards the back.
