Golf Special: Team Europe receives an inspirational phone call from the legendary Seve Ballesteros
Currently the European team participating in the Ryder Cup being held at Celtic Manor received a telephone call from the Spanish legendary golfer Seve Ballesteros. The call from Seve Ballesteros is no doubt very special, as it was enough to motivate and
cherish the entire European squad.
The 53-year-old Spaniard Seve Ballesteros had a very remarkable Ryder Cup career. He had participated as a player and as a captain for the European team, and has displayed his matchless commitment and class pretty brilliantly.
After the incident, the European team skipper Colin Montgomerie expressed his sheer happiness and respect for the Spanish legend and told the media that the phone call from Ballesteros was truly motivational and special for him and as well as for his teammates.
He added that players like Ballesteros are the real assets for the golfing world, and he is truly thankful to him. These days the 53-year-old Seve Ballesteros is suffering from the fatal illness of brain tumour, and had gone through a major operation.
Ballesteros class and brilliance is not unknown to anyone. The Spaniard has won five major championship titles and has played in eight Ryder Cup editions. He is also considered as one of the best European golfers of all times. While talking about Ballesteros,
the European skipper Montgomerie told the media that Ballesteros was a real playmaker, and his bad health condition prevented him from attending this year’s Ryder Cup. His friends’ well wishes are with him, and they are looking forward to see him fit and perfect
again. He added that Ballesteros spoke to the European team for almost ten minutes, and gave the European team a lot of inspiration and motivation for the upcoming challenges in the Ryder Cup.
The experience and remarkable technique of the 53-year-old Spaniard has given him a very unique and significant place in the world of golfing. While talking to the media, Montgomerie expressed his deep respect by saying that it was an honour for him and
his teammates to talk to a golfing living legend, as he had made a big name for the European golf, which was never been done before by any Spanish golfer. He said that the team spoke to him on the speakerphone in a room and the feeling was simply refreshing
and inspirational. Later Montgomerie added that Ballesteros made them feel that he is still here and not away from the game of golf.
Other than the phone call from Seve Ballesteros, the European team was also visited by the former Ryder Cup captains Ian Woosnam and Sam Torrance. The famous rugby idol from Wales Gareth Edwards, also met the European team. Montgomerie said that the uniqueness
of the Ryder Cup is truly undeniable, and all the players are feeling very motivated after meeting the living legends of the today’s golfing world. He added that the speeches from Ballesteros and rugby icon Gareth Edwards have given them a new hope and inspiration
to compete and perform better. The current European team skipper expressed his thoughts by saying that his team is feeling very confident, and will try its level best to clutch back the trophy of the prestigious Ryder Cup.
The speeches and phone call by the legend and icon of golf has certainly given the right amount of inspiration required to outclass the American rivals in the Ryder Cup. It is now up to the European squad to stay focused towards their game and aim high to
win back the trophy which they lost in the year 2008.
