  1. Chi Chi Rodriguez, Arnold Palmer and even Jack Nicklaus lifts their left heal on the back swing. It is not how you look when you swing, but how your club impacts the golf ball that's important.

If you see the tour players, everyone has little idiosyncrasies in their swings and they are all different. But the important thing is at an impact position, most, if not all, have similar position. So, don't get too worried about lifting your foot or not during a back swing. Concentrate on good impact position and hitting the ball solid.

  2. As long as your foot does not change position it is quite okay.

For instance while lifting your heel your foot should not move from its original position by sliding or turning.  Your toes and or ball of your foot, depending on how high your lifting your heel, should remain in the start position and your heel should come back down to its start position.  If the heel does not return to the starting position, your swing plane will have more than likely altered and usually not for the better.

You can check this by placing a couple of tees around your heel, one a 1/2 inch to the outside and one 1/2 inch to the inside, sticking out of the ground about a 1/2 inch.  This should give you a good indicator of heel movement

    Good luck.

  3. Sure it's okay.  It's difficult to not do it.

  4. Perfectly okay,  encourages a good hip turn if you re not overly supple ,and never did Jack Nicklaus any harm!

  5. Yes. A lot of better golfers do this. It's especially useful if you are somewhat less flexible. That lifting of the foot allows you to make a full turn. It's also useful as a starting motion for your downswing. Better golfers who use this move plant the heel as the first move of their downswing.
