Golf: The Way Presidents Spend Christmas
The American President Barack Obama has started his winter vacation and he chose the serene state of Hawaii as his holiday spot for winter 2010. Following a little bit of work and morning workout, the President decided to play some golf on his first day
of vacation.
Obama rejoiced his childhood memories as he teed off with childhood friends at the Links Course. The president played golf with Bobby Titcomb, Mik Ramos and Eric Whitaker. Whitaker, who is Obama’s friend from Chicago, accompanied the president at the Kaneohe
Klipper Golf Course. This golf course is at an amazing location as it overlooks the ocean at Marine Corps Base.
This was the first full vacation day the President spent with his family. The first lady Michelle and first daughters arrived in Hawaii on Saturday. Even though Obama was on vacation, the president still didn’t neglect his work. Apart from playing golf,
he also made a call to the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. The two leaders discussed the new START nuclear arms treaty that was ratified by the U.S. senate a day before.
While the president was busy golfing, his security was on high alert. Despite reporters travelling with the president, Obama made sure to not be spotted by the camera. The last time Obama went golfing was on October 24th when he played the 18
holes at the Andrews Air Force Base Course.
After playing golf, the president returned to his rented vacation home in Kailua where he will spend the night. Everything chosen by the president surely has to be world class. The course for example, the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course is an eight hole championship
golf course. Consisting of a separate riving range, chipping green and putting green, it provides the player with the complete golfing experience.
Not only is the course superb, the view is a treat in itself. The Ko’olau Mountains frame the front nine and the Pacific coastline spans the back holes. With such a breathtaking view, the serene ocean breeze is truly the cherry on top.
Golf has usually been a popular sport among the American presidents. More than 14 of the previous presidents were regular golfers. Lyndon Johnson played golf just like he played politics. Ignoring his bad shots, he would just take a new ball out of his pocket
and play.
It looks like Obama would continue with the trend as he picked his winter holidays to play golf.
