Golf: Tiger Woods apologises for spitting incident
Former world number one golfer Tiger Woods has apologised on social networking website Twitter for spitting on the golf course during the recently concluded 2011 Omega Dubai Desert Classic golf tournament.
Woods Tweeted on Monday evening, “The Euro Tour is right – it was inconsiderate to spit like that, and I know better. Just wasn’t thinking and want to say I’m sorry.”
Tiger will be fined as per rules of the European Tour. A penalty between £250 and £10,000 will be handed over to the former world number one.
Moreover, Woods, whose pump fisting on the course had been a target of constant criticism, will not tee off in the Accenture World Match Play Championship. Instead, he will appear in front of the court of discipline, the European Tour players’ committee,
where he will be questioned regarding his behaviour.
Woods spitted on the 12th green of the Emirates Golf Club, which is against the code and conduct of participants during a tournament. A  Sky TV commentator, Ewen Murray recorded the incident on his camera and said that it was one of the most ugly
things to be seen in golf.
Soon the European Tour started receiving complaints about the incident from various sources that resulted in an announcement from the tour officials.
“The tournament director, Mike Stewart, has reviewed the incident and feels there has been a breach of the Tour code of conduct and consequently Tiger Woods will be fined. The Tour will not be publicising the amount,” said the officials.
This is not the first time that Tiger has been embarrassed publicly. Ever since his infidelity scandal trampled his global reputation, Tiger has not had the best of times.
Recently, Woods had promised that he would work on his image as a human and a player, but within a few months of the declaration, the troubled golfer is set to face another trial.
