Golf: Tiger Woods to start 2011 at Torrey Pines
World number two, Tiger Woods is ready to start his Professional Golfers Association Tour with Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.
Torrey Pines, which is located in the heart of San Diego, is considered lucky by the veteran as he holds a record of six victories there. Therefore, the 35-year-old has decided to launch his 2011 session with the event which he perceives as sacred.
Woods confirmed the news of contention on Wednesday via his website and Twitter. He wrote, “I'm really looking forward to competing. I've been working hard on my game and I'm excited about 2011.”
Tiger changed his swings thrice in 2010 and failed to get the desired results. However, he opted for the services of Sean Foley by the end of the year and saw a considerable improvement in results. He smashed a score of 65 in the second round of Deutsche
Bank Championship, finished 9th in driving accuracy and 21st in the putting per Green Hits in Regulation. That was the first sign of his revival.
Moreover, in JBWere Australian Masters, Woods replicated the same score and wrapped the tournament with a fourth spot finish. His powerful revival was witnessed at the Chevron World Challenge, where he held the lead until the play-off. The seven-time major
winner finished as the runner-up and recorded his highest accomplishment of 2010. He lost to Graeme McDowell by just one stroke.
His revival is expected in 2011 and even Graeme agrees to that. After defeating Woods in a play-off, the Northern Irishman told the press, “I'm definitely a guy who says that golf needs Tiger Woods and we need him back winning tournaments. I think he will
be back winning golf tournaments in 2011. There's something a bit special about his golf game and I fully expect that mystique to return as the golf clubs start doing the talking again.”
To get back into the winning form, the world number two will head towards the beautiful Torrey Pines golf club, which lies on the cliffs of Pacific Ocean. He has finished in the top 10 in each of his 11 appearances at the event, which includes six victories
as well. How lucky it proves this time around, only time will tell.
