Golf: Tiger looks 'up' towards 2011
Wearing a red polo shirt and hands on hips, Tiger Woods stands by a cliff and looks at the water below. He stares in the camera and says, "It's what you do next that counts."
Ads of such notion started flooding the TV channels in 2006 and kept doing it until Tiger lost everything. Tiger’s fall started in 2009 when he crashed his SUV in a fire hydrant on the night of thanksgiving. Soon the magazines, newspapers, and TV channels
were headlined with Tiger’s infidelities. Celebrities started cashing on the excellent opportunity; from Justin Bieber to Enrique Iglesias, singers started writing catchy lyrics with Tiger’s name in it.
Within a small span of time, sponsors cancelled the contract with the veteran and the billion-dollar industry, which Tiger built, came crashing down. Not only did the world number one lose his wife, but he also lost all the titles along with his top rank.
After a gap of one year, Tiger is ready to enter the advertisement market and PGA tour. The PGA tour's official website has also started a poll regarding the 34-year-old American. In the right most corner of the website, a window flashes a question regarding
Tiger’s image, marriage, ranking etc. By clicking the results, one sees that the public mostly responds in the favour of the veteran.
Similar notion is held by the Tiger’s marketing agent, Mark Steinberg. He said that a very powerful response was reaching the media regarding Tiger’s image and people were ready to give him one more chance.
He quoted, "We are a society of second chances. That has been proven over the years. He is not going to be in any deal until he looks the company in the eye and has a serious conversation with them. ‘How are you going to live your life? We want to be part
of the redemption, rehabilitation. Are you serious about that?' And he knows that. He is comfortable with it. And he's going to do that."
Tiger has already started working on his image. He joined Twitter and made an appearance at the ESPN Radio show. The response was positive. Within an hour of joining the social networking site, Tiger had 40,000 followers. To make things happening, Tiger
started cracking jokes on Twitter and his fans welcomed that. Moreover, he changed his tone with the fans, which lacked humbleness a year back. For the first time on record, Tiger tagged his fans as awesome.
He wrote, "You guys are awesome. Thanks for all the love."
He has been the centre of attention ever since he held the golf club in his hand. From the tender age of five, until the time he spurred the TV ratings high in the sky, Tiger has been in limelight. According to Golf Digest, TV ratings escalated when he played
and rocket jumped by 125% when he contented on Sunday. Despite the scandal, fans showed up in the tournament, which had Tiger’s name in it.
Tiger Woods saw his fallout in 2010, primarily because of the quality of game which he delivered at the events and secondly due to the negative hype that encircled him. Despite all odds, the veteran worked on his swings and made a superb comeback in the
JB Were Australian Masters, where he smashed a 64 in the last round. Although, he failed to mark the end of the year with a victory, he did hold the lead firmly for four rounds; before he lost the play-off in the Chevron World Challenge.
His image seems somewhat invigorated. And chances are that in 2011, Tiger will try to bring back his lost form, which once earned him the Number 1 spot along with the respect of the pundits and fans alike. All he needs now is a strong marketing team and
a lot of practice with his swings, the rest of the stage is set for the former World Number 1.
