With 128 competitors meeting in the golf course at Abu Dhabi, including 12 Major Champions and 101 European Tour winners, the HSBC sponsored event is definitely bound to get maximum attention from all sources.
The excitement build-up is expected to reach unprecedented levels as the three giants of golf battle it out together in the opening encounter.
The opening of the campaign will begin with Irish golfing superstar Rory McIlroy, English golfer Luke Donald and American Tiger Woods, battling it out in their own way.
World No. 1, Luke Donald expressed his excitement about the event and the 7,600 yard golf course, where the matches will take place.
He said, "I'm always excited to be in with those kinds of marquee players and it will be good to play with Tiger again, it's been a while. I got to play with Rory a few weeks ago in Dubai. I'm looking forward to that pairing. It's a fantastic group”.
It is also important to mention here that the year 2011 witnessed a major breakthrough for Luke Donald.
He became the first golfer ever to claim both the US PGA and European Tour, topping the order of merit list in a single season.
Commenting on the presence of Tiger Woods in the event, he said, "It's not just playing with Tiger, it's the fact that he brings a bigger crowd. There's a little bit more of an atmosphere. You're going to feel a little bit different”.
