Golf Tournament Prizes?

I'm planning a golf tournment for our local Jaycee's chapter. It will be open to the public and we have some major national sponsors to do the signs and such. My question is do you give out cash prizes to the top teams (i'm thinking a two person scramble) or do you just give flag prizes? Its going to be about $50 a person to play.

  1. If you give out cash prizes of any amount, everyone in the tournament will lose their amateur status. This means everybody who plays in the tournament, not just the winners.

You have to give out merchandise.

  2. I've played in fundraising tourneys and you typically try to give prizes rather than money.

I've been in tourneys where there are Budwiser prizes donated by the local beer distributor, tools from places like Home Depot, etc...

If you call some of the local businesses, I'd be willing to bet they would donate some prizes in exchange for promoting their business.  They may want to hang a banner or stick a sign in the ground by where you sign in.

  3. It's reasonable.

  4. I wouldn't give out cash prizes if it is a fundraiser.  This just decreases your take.  And for a fundraiser, I don't think the players expect cash prizes.

Get vendors and businesses to contribute prizes.  They will gladly do so in return for the publicity and recognition.  For example, ask the host course to donate some free rounds of golf, tokens for the driving range, a gift certificate to the Pro Shop, etc.  Go to the local discount stores (e.g., Wal Mart) and ask for donations from Sporting Goods that are golf related.

  5. You should go to           www.hole-in-WON.com

for Hole-in-WON prizes, Putting contest prizes and free golf gifts. 1-800-959-5322 vp@hole-in-won.com

They also are the largest golf tee signs co. in the US if you want to compare notes or for general prize questions . . . and the answer is: you should give out minimal prizes to the top 3 places w/ the top getting NO MORE Than their entry $$ back of $50 and it is always a smart move to do a or all Pro Shop Credit(s) as you will make fans at the course that way for oncoming years events

  6. I would give out both, cash for the winners, and depending on how many teams you have entered also for places. You could also prizes on specific holes for a hole in one, or closest to the pin, or even long drive contest. It is relatively easy to get prizes donated from local retailers, you can even get insurance for larger prizes, such as cars for hole in one on 1 specific hole. basically the more possible prizes or winnings the more people you will get to participate and the more money you will raise.
