Golf Update, no Twitter and Facebook till the Ryder Cup ends
Kids might be stopped by their teachers or parents from using Facebook and Twitter, but now the U.S. and European players have been banned from using social networking sites during the Ryder Cup.
U.S. captain Corey Pavin and European side leader, Colin Montgomerie said, that there will be a ban in place this week to keep players focused on the matches which will begin from Friday at Celtic Manor.
According to Pavin, there has been a unanimous decision regarding avoiding Twitter and other social networking sites. Both captains have done this in order to keep the players more inclined towards the game, rather than getting involved in social activities.
He added that he realized the importance of socialization but this was not the time for it as it can be distracting as well. However, after this week the first agenda on the list will be resuming the tweeting sessions.
The European side captain, Colin Montgomerie, also told his team to avoid Twitter and focus on the job at hand which deserved the ultimate priority. He was found saying, "We feel that tweeting and Facebook and all of these social sites can get one's self
into trouble but on Monday, Oct. 4, yes, you'll find the team probably on social network sites. But not until then".
Montgomerie said his decision was instigated by the incident involving England cricketer, Kevin Pietersen, who was fined earlier this month for making a secular comment on Twitter after he found that he had been kicked out of the team for the first time.
“Kevin Pietersen's error changed my view”, Montgomerie said.
Apart from him, Ian Poulter too has a massive following on Twitter, but was pushed to ask for forgiveness earlier this season for giving harsh comments regarding the football match between Tottenham and Arsenal.
Tweeting on Monday, U.S. Ryder Cup rookie, Rickie Fowler confirmed his team's Twitter ban as he wrote, that it was captain’s orders that no player will be allowed to use any social networking sites while they were on the tour.
Moreover, the winner of the Open Championship 2009, Stewart Cink wrote on Twitter before taking the plane to Cardiff that , they were finally going to Wales, but he won’t be tweeting until he comes back home. He further tweeted that he will think of reading
or some other activity in the meanwhile. Cink has claims to have more than one million followers on Twitter.
Other than Fowler and Cink, Zach Johnson, Hunter Mahan, Graeme McDowell, Rory McIlroy, Francesco Molinari and Bubba Watson also have Twitter accounts which they use regularly.
Moving forward, the Americans have reached the land of Ryder Cup and they are currently engaged in a practice session which is going on the Twenty-Ten course. The purpose of this session is to get the players accustomed to the new course and its features.
Tiger Woods has been reported by a local newspaper in Wales to find the course quite suitable. Although, he had to practice with a few balls on the course with his caddie, he is confident about his upcoming performance.
“Tiger will be going to the course barefoot”, was the major headline last week. So far, he is in his shoes and hasn’t shown any signs of taking them off but he sure will. This news has been confirmed by the world number one, who has been practicing swings
and balance with his new coach, Sean Foley. The purpose of this trick is to give balance during the game.
