Golf Update: 12th edition of Sindh Open Golf Championship, Pakistan
Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) and the Sindh Golf Association (SGA) have organized the golf Championship of three days, Sindh Golf Association (SGA) recently announced that the 12th edition of Sindh Open Golf Championship would be played on the Arabian Sea Country Club (ASCC) over 54 holes starts from July 23(today) to 25th of July.
The Arabian Sea Country Club is the perfect break out for an afternoon, an evening or night. The Club provides the guests with a tranquil environment and the right surrounding for a relaxing game of golf. It facilitates the guest with all the luxuries by providing an outstanding golf course along with an intricate Swimming Pool Complex, Sauna, Jacuzzi Steam bath and Fitness Centre, for the perfect workout.
The Sindh open golf championship is going to start from July 23, 2010 with a lot of excitement, as the Country’s excellent golfers including Pakistan Navy’s defending champion Shabbir Iqbal. Along with Shabbir Iqbal, Waseem Rana and Manzoor Ahmed will be the defending champions for Open, Amateur and Senior Professional categories.
One of the best and strongest golf players of Pakistan, Shabbir, who had the honour of winning almost every professional title in Pakistan, including 71 national titles under his belt, looks to keep hold of his title after winning the rewarding Chief of Naval Staff Golf Championship at Karachi Golf Club last Sunday. This will be excellent opportunity for Shabbir to complete the double by winning CNS and Sindh Open.
Pakistan’s top golfers Shabbir Iqbal and Mohammad Munir will compete for top positions in the 12th Sindh Open Golf Championship at the Arabian Sea Country Club from July 23. Shabbir’s major competitors for the title are Muhammad Munir, Matloob Ahmed, Muhammad Tariq and Muhammad Siddique.
Other top players of Pakistan like Imdad Hussain, Muhammad Munir, Amjad Yousuf, Matloob Ahmed, Shahid Javed Khan, Muhammad Siddique, Muhammad Tariq and Waheed Baloch are also seen in action.
The competition will feature more than 100 professional golfers and amateurs with a handicap of 12 and below. Almost 40 senior professionals will play 36 holes.
Secretary Abdul Bari said, “We are expecting more than 150 entries in different events including senior professionals. (ASCC) host golfers Sajid and Aadil Jehangir from Lahore are the leading amateur turn professional.”
The event carries attractive prize money of Rs. one million with winner taking Rs.1, 73,850 runner-up picking Rs.119, 350 and third and fourth spot golfer collecting Rs.66, 880 and Rs.54, 550.
The rescheduling of the event by two weeks means Pakistan’s top amateur golfers Mohammad Ali Hai, Muhammad Safdar and Waseem Rana will not be able to participate in the championship, as they are currently participating in an international golf tournament in Sri Lanka. Unfortunately, Shahid Javed Khan, a well-known professional golfer will miss the event because he has gone to Amsterdam (Netherlands) to feature in a pro event.
Officials of the Championship said women’s participation in the event was not possible as there are less professional female golfers in the country.
The event will wrap up on July 25 followed by a prize distribution ceremony.
