Golf Update: 2010 FedEx Cup Playoffs’ last leg to start tomorrow- odds and favorites
The last leg of the 2010 FedEx Cup Playoffs is all set to start tomorrow at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. While starting on 23rd September, 2010 it would stretch to 26th September, 2010.
This leg would mark the end of the 2010 PGA tour with only the top 30 players making the cut. However, the definition of the top 30 players appears to be: “The golfers, who have remained consistent, dedicated and have demonstrated solid game throughout the
season”. The reward for this hard work would be a bonus of US$ 2 million that will be presented to the event’s winner.
But, it isn’t the bonus alone as the winner would also get 2500 FedEx points and the prize money of US$ 1.35 million. Moreover, there seems to be something for almost everyone. Therefore, the player at the bottom of the leader board will too get US$ 120,000
as a souvenir for his efforts.
Apart from the regular prize money, PGA Tour has also decided to reward the players with a FedEx Cup bonus pool, with the Champion getting as much as US$ 10 million, while the 10th- spot player will receive US$ 500,000 and even the loser gets another US$
175,000. What an earning at the end.
The East Lake Golf Club would be the one hosting the grand give away. The last time it ever hosted an event was back in 2009. As for the Course, it stretches on 7304 yards, which makes it the second longest par-70 course. The first longest is the Firestone
Country Club. Golf experts believe that the only way to beat this course and its long pars is by extreme driving accuracy with the prime focus being on finding the fairways.
As a token of knowledge, the roughs found on the course stretch up to three inches which means that it could turn out to be a h**l of trouble finding the roughs as well. This would be the third year for the title to have taken place at the East Lake. But
this time, the course will definitely miss its former conqueror, Tiger Woods, who fell out of contention and in the end couldn’t make the cut into the event.
The World No.2 and two-time winner at East Lake, Phil Mickelson, is also one player other than Tiger Woods, who can send shiver down the spine of other players contesting the event. Phil holds the record of defeating Tiger by three strokes during the final
round of the championship held here last year.
Other than Phil, there are two more players- Jason Day and Geoff Ogilvy- who also have the guts to outshine at the East Lake Country Club.
Jason Day
He is currently sixth on the FedEx rankings but he lacks relevance with the course as he has never played there before. Still, he has one thing that might work wonders for him which is his talent and confidence that he has been portraying during the last
three months. Although, he finished at 54th spot in the BMW Championship but there are chances that he might be the one with the US$ 10 million.
Geoff Ogilvy
He stands at the 12th spot after having finished second in the Deutsche Bank Championship. Geoff Ogilvy has relevance with the course as he played 12 rounds there but he has broken par only thrice. Like Day, he too has a decent confidence level especially
after the last three weeks of playoffs.
Finally, this is it for the general preview. Now, let us wait for the event to begin.
