Golf Update: Adilson Da Silva wins the Zambia Open 2010
Zambia Open 2010 that was taking place at the Ndola Golf Club has wrapped up and the winner of the championship has been declared. It is Adilson Da Silva the sixth time winner of the Sunshine Tour.
Adilson Da Silva claimed the purse of R800, 000 and the trophy for the sixth time in his career followed by his closest combat, Johan Du Buisson, who was only four shots away from him. The final day started out with a blaze but down the lane, it seemed as if the players were losing their momentum and the accuracy. The terrible scorching heat was held responsible for the change or else the top of the leader board would have shown better results.
Enough of the temperature, coming back to the leader of the day, Adilson Da Silva entered the final round with a 68 and marched all the way to the back nine with two under. However, he smashed an amazing birdie at the last hole and turned a near playoff into a lead of four shots. As for Johan Du Buisson, he delivered a double bogey at the last hole and lost the chance of winning his debut title in the second year of his tour.
According to Adilson Da Silva, he was pretty confident that he will leave the course with a dramatic ending and that is what happened. Da Silva aimed a huge drive at the 18th tee making its way to 95 meters of the pin. From there, he knocked the ball into the green and sank a 25 feet birdie putt hence declaring his victory at the last hole. However, at the same time Johan Du Buisson who was only two shots behind Da Silva after he birdied the fifteenth hole, pulled his 3-wood out his clubs and approached the tee in hope of another birdie. The 30-year-old player took his shot but it got cut in half hence falling out of bounds resulting into a double bogey on the score card.
Johan Du Buisson started out fine with a birdie on the first hole and according to the analysts; he was going so confident in the first half that it seemed his victory was evident. However, gradually when he reached the back nine, he bogeyed the seventh hole; there was a sense of fear that could be noticed. Then he bogeyed one more hole at the tenth, which worsened the scenario but he picked up his pace and aced the 14th later birdied the 15th hole.
Moving forward to the rest of the players, If Da Silva was giving a hard time to the leader then at the same time Warren Abere was chasing Da Silva. Although he was doing a good job but on his way to the back nine, he tripped from his pace and delivered four bogeys in the final eight holes, hence wrapping the final round in seventh position and giving Da Silva an opportunity to rise further.
Furthermore, Brett Liddle finished in the third place after posting two consecutive rounds with three-under 70. Moreover, he holds the record of the day as he had a hole-in-one on the twelfth tee .As for the player who delivered the best score of the day, it was Lindani Ndwandwe and he posted a net total of seven-under 66, hence taking the top 4th place of the leader board. The last player who deserves a description is the Defending champion Jbe' Kruger. The ironical part of the story is that media was full of a statement that this seasons’ victory will go in the hands of the player but what happened was quite the opposite, as he finished in the 42nd place and gave a score of two-over 75.
This is it for the final round of the Zambia Open 2010 that was taking place at the Ndola Golf Club. According to the experts, the overall tournament went well as there were couple of outstanding shots and putting delivered and at the same time Adilson Da Silva performance was superb.
