Golf Update: Anthony Kim and his thumb injury has travelled a stint long enough
2010 has been one controversial year for the twenty five year old golfer, Anthony Kim.
Where informally Kim is considered as one of the top golfers to party with, formally, this individual is considered as a golfer who just doesn’t make the effort any more.
In 2009, he drank till 4 in the morning before his match according to Robert Allenby. In 2010, his thumb injury first sidelined him from the May to August and then later witnessed his withdrawal from the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children
Open due to his partying in Las Vegas. Later, the golfer nearly lost his European Tour card after his bid for the medical exemption was rejected.
This is what got him into trouble at Las Vegas, “he was seen on the dance floor spraying Champaign from a $25,000 bottle of Dom Perignon”
So it’s obvious, Anthony has more than a ‘thumb injury’ going on this year.
The Dallas resident is a 2006 turned professional and holds 3 PGA Tour victories. He joined the PGA Tour in the year 2007 and stood at T50. Later the twenty five year old stood T 16 in the US open and attained third place at the Masters Tournament this year.
Other than these wins, Kim also won the Shell Houston Open this year and achieved second place at The Honda Classic.
His most striking performance was in the year 2008 at the Ryder Cup event due to which many critics ignored the 2009 allegations, as his performance was still fresh in many minds. Where many fans would suggest we leave Kim and his hard earned money alone,
several critics would advice Kim to spend his money for a thumb specialist.
It’s not the practice that’s causing Kim problems but it’s his thumb that isn’t letting him practice at all.
According to Thomas Bjorn who is the Tournament Players Committee chairman,
“there is no doubt that Anthony’s thumb was injured but he didn’t compete at all and just made no effort.”
Bjorn made this statement at the Castello Masters and said that if they keep his injury aside for a while, the twenty five year old had quite a time to compete since returning to the competition but the critics saw no such endeavour from him. Having said
that, Kim’s bid for medical exemption was denied.
Kim’s injury has followed such a stint that it is now being compared to Paula Creamer’s semi-rehabbed thumb. The 2009 Kiwi Challenge winner went through his thumb injury this year which will obviously take some time to get back in its form, but then one
wonders how the LPGA Tour's Creamer won her first major in 2010 with the thumb condition she had.
According to Creamer, she didn’t practice every day and common sense depicts the female golfer hitting shots off tees so that her pain wouldn’t maximize in any way.
So how badly is this player injured really? Where many would say Kim should deal with it soon, a fairly large amount from the masses would question: “who opened the bottle for Kim at the dance floor to spray Dom”.
The fact of the matter is, Kim should deal with his thumb injury soon. This golfer is considered in the same league as golfers like Martin Kaymer, Rickie Fowler and Rory McIlroy who have all been climbing to the top one way or the other. According to latest
updates, Anthony Kim is included in the in print of the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions on the European Tour and thus has his fans hoping to see a more refocused Kim.
