Golf Update: Barclays Singapore Open, at the Sentosa Golf Club from November 11th-14th, 2010.
Sentosa Golf Club will host this seasons Barclays Singapore Open from November 11th-14th, 2010.
This mega event is back in Singapore with a purse of US$6 million welcoming players like Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott, Padraig Harrington and YE Yang. However, many more elite players are being invited and very soon, the list of two hundred and four names will be announced in upcoming months. As for the venue, this is its sixth time to cash on fame and huge inflow of money.
Moreover, the Singapore open is being held under the Asian tour, the European tour combined banner, and this is the second consecutive year in which this is happening. Earlier it was executed under the Asian Tour only. Furthermore, the Serapong and the Tanjong Course will be spotlight places as the event will take in these two, however, after the first two days the players will be shifted to the Serpong course where the final moments of the tournament will wind up. 
Commenting on the condition of the course, the Chairman and CEO Asia Pacific, Barclays, Robert Morrice said that he was very pleased with the conditions and so far, it was the best venue in the six years of Singapore open. He further added that more players were due to come not in future and by then the event will be more massive than it is today. As for the title itself, the Barclays Singapore Open originates from the Barclays in the United States and the Scottish Open, which is the pioneer of golf in the world.
Moreover, the Barclays made an official announcement last year that they will sponsor the Singapore open till 2012. They have been in a relationship since 2006, when the open was in its second year.
Coming back to the players, there are top seventy five players from the Asian Tour and the same from the European Tour. However, certain positions are reserved and they are seven for the members of the Mercedes-Benz Tour, five for the PGA Tour of Australasia, five for the China Golf Association Tour, five for the Korean Golf Tour and five for the Professional Golf Tour of India. Furthermore, ten places will be reserved for sponsor invites, four will be held for the amateurs from the Singapore Golf Association and finally the last three will be for the local professionals hence making a net total of thirty- two positions.
Singapore is developing taste for the game of elites and it can be signified from the number of spectators that come to witness the event. Last year forty thousand people came to see their favourite players birdie the holes of Sentosa golf club and according to a record sixty five thousand people witnessed the English man, Ian Poulter, when he held the last year trophy high in the air. According to the media reports, this number is expected to be crossed this year as the defending champion is coming back to the home of golf in Singapore.
Moving forward to the players, Phil Mickelson who will be seen swinging his clubs on the course of Sentosa Golf Club will be coming here for the third time. His best finish was back in 2008, when he seized the position of top ninth. Regarding his achievements, firstly he is the three time champion of the US Masters and he holds the title of acclaiming four Majors and thirty eight US PGA Tour events. As for the second player, it is Adam Scott who won his first  Singapore  open title in 2006 and later claimed it again 2007 by a lead of seven strokes.
To wrap the story up, the sixth edition of the Singapore Open is coming back to its soil in November 2010 at the Sentosa Golf Club. The event is considered as the most lavish event of Asia, as it carries the highest purse amount of the region which mounts to six million.
